I've been impressed with the customer service at Active Adventures from the very beginning- from the basics of setting up a trip to the crazy
tour shifting in March 2020 to changing our 2023 trip to 2024. And our just completed Ultimate North Island Adventure continued to surpass all
that. Our guides, Braden and Katie, were exceptional in every way, going the extra mile to make our trip special and accommodating the varying abilities and desires of the group. There was always a good alternative if you weren't up to the main activity, and their "home town" knowledge added a special personal touch to the tour. They looked out for me and my bum knee, always making sure that things were OK, and finding ways of making it work. And I won't even start on the wonderful food- absolutely amazing, especially the guide prepared spreads with all the NZ specialties! The highest kudos and deepest thanks for their tireless efforts.

I'm not usually a "tour" type of traveler. I joined the North Island Adventure trip because I was traveling solo through NZ and thought Active Adventures would help get me to places I couldn't get myself. Over the ten days, there was not a moment I questioned my choice. Our guides -- Katie and Branden -- were all about generosity of spirit, pride, and knowledge about the country they lovingly call home. Every activity, accommodation, and meal was seamlessly organized and full of joy -- and in some cases mischievous surprises. There was even laughter on the long bus rides. What I really appreciated the most about the trip was the flexibility and thoughtfulness. I never felt like the "extra" as a single traveler and I, or any other of my fellow trip mates, wanted to change up our day or try something different, the answer was always "yes". Should you join an Active Adventure trip? My answer will always be "yes"!

From the first moment, we felt in good hands. We were fortunate with other group members being friendly as well. We had agonised over challenging vs comfort and we’re so glad we chose challenging for the immersion. Yes we had to share but our group was with us. Bonus. It was bonding

I went on this trip to see Machu Picchu and ended up being amazed by The Sacred Valley, the people (Incas) of the Andes and our Guide Salvador. Our guide brought the people and the land to life!

For those considering if booking with Active is worth it... Well, in short, yes. They absolutely handle the logistics during the trip and handle them well. The booked transfer services, lodging, and guides were excellent and worth the cost. My particular trip was to Patagonia. Doing privately would / could have been challenging and potentially frustrating. There are a lot of complexities in Patagonia and the Active team absolutely handled that very well.

They looked after our every need.

There were so many wonderful things so see. We loved every day of this trip. Our Peru guide, Salvador, was outstanding, and so very kind. It was great to see Peru through his eyes! Our Galapagos guide Pablo was also very knowledgeable.

The itinerary was near perfect and was really well executed. Our guides, especially Holly, were knowledgeable, extremely helpful, and enthusiastic. They managed to give us a decent amount of time at each of the many trip highlights and still keep us moving and on schedule. Holly was an excellent driver and was very informative on the bus without talking at us too much. She is a great story teller and her stories added a lot of color to the trip. We had what seemed like an appropriate amount of free time.

Our major concern was with how Active Adventures handled things when one of the couples on the tour contracted Covid. Initially, one of the two got Covid. We were informed of this by the guy who had Covid. He told us that he had been sick for 5 days and had seen a doctor on our free day in Queenstown. Even though the guy still tested positive for Covid, the doctor said that based on the fact that he had been told by this guy that he had already been sick for 5 days, he was no longer contagious and good to continue on the trip. This decision by Active Adventures was contrary to its own published terms which say that any person who tests positive will be removed from the tour unless 7 days has passed since first showing symptoms. In addition, this couple was wearing two flimsy masks, apparently provided to them by AA, and they were wearing them under their noses while on the bus. Only when I approached our guide and said they should be wearing more substantial masks and wearing them properly did AA have them do so. AA did not have the A95 masks so I provided them.

AA also turned a blind eye to the fact that the wife of the guy who had Covid was very vulnerable to contracting it herself, which is exactly what happened even though she initially tested negative. Even after she got sick, AA was prepared to allow the couple to continue on the trip. It was only after several of us approached our guides that she was asked to take a Covid test which turned out positive and a decision was made to have the couple leave the tour. At that point, one of the guides also got Covid and had to leave the tour.

In essence, AA was putting the convenience of two members of the group over the health and well being of the rest of us. Although fortunately no other members of the group got Covid, two members of the group were 80 years old. Another member had contracted Covid a year earlier and was still dealing with very negative effects. AA prides itself on protecting the safety of its clients. In this case, AA did not do so.

Our trip with Active to see the South Island of New Zealand was amazing in every way. From the excellent guides, gorgeous hikes, beautiful views, delicious meals, story time, to the fitting sound track on the bus - perhaps the best trip I have been on so far. Can’t wait to go on and Active Adventure again.

While the trip itself was extraordinary our guide put it over the top. To us an ideal guide is not simply someone who leads you from A to B but rather fills in between the points with background, stories, folklore, history, geological features etc so one learns about the people, the culture and their life. They also do their best to help bring the group of individuals to a cohesive group. Holly was as close to the ideal guide as one could get. She easily conveyed detailed historical facts, the changing landscapes and Māori legends. Her warm personality, the music she selected to match the stage of our journey contributed to the ambiance, and mood for the group.
The itinerary was all encompassing and the meals were all first class. Nicola was an excellent cook that catered to all needs and diets. There was always a fruit and snack bars basket available as well as sunscreen and bug repellent. An adventure at every turn. Highly recommend!

This was our first active type tour and we are SO glad we chose Active Adventures! Everyday was memorable, well-planned, active fun. We feel like we hit all the highlights of the South Island. At the end of the day we often said, "Wow that was the best day! That was probably the highlight, only to be followed by another amazing day that was even better." We loved everything and we definitely plan to do another Active Adventures tour!!

The River and Lakes Regions of Northern Patagonia were stunningly beautiful amongst the backdrop of many snow-kissed volcanos. Hiking and experiences were completely different than the rugged Southern Patagonia regions, but equally beautiful.

Fantastic trip that is one for the books. It was filled with exciting worthwhile activities such as biking to the caves, sea kayaking in Lake Grey, glacier hiking (extra cost not included in package) and of course hiking. Trekking was challenging at times but the summits with the views were well worth it. This was my second trekking trip with Active Adventures and once again the trip leader (Zac) and guides (Andrea, Camilla and Lucy) were top-notch. Excellent interpersonal skills (where does Active Adventures find these people?!!!) and knowledge of the local flora and fauna and areas. They quickly brought a diverse group of people together into a cohesive unit. A lot of laughs and mutual support.

Food was very good with a mix of nice restaurants and refugio dinners. Accommodations in the hotels and refugioes were as billed - clean and comfortable..

Shout out to Big Foot outfitters at Lake Grey. Their staff led the sea kayaking and glacier hiking. Friendly, professional guides with updated equipment. I'm so glad I splurged on the extra cost for the glacier hiking. It was an experience of a lifetime and worth every penny.
