The two regions of this trip were so different. In Peru, learning about Inca history, seeing the structures that they built with minimal tools and that have survived for centuries and getting to spend time in small towns and interacting with local artisans was fabulous. The Galapagos Islands were a wildlife fest with snorkeling, kayaking and boat rides between islands and viewing sea "creatures" in the shallows and deep water. You also hiked volcanos and saw land tortoises, iguanas and the topography change as you go from lush to lava fields. Wonderful experiences

I was interested in this trip because I had always dreamed of going to Machu Picchu and the only reason I was traveling to Peru was because that is where Machu Picchu was. As it turned out, getting to Machu Picchu was great but it wasn't even one of the highlights of the trip! I am so glad I went on this trip with Active Adventures because it exposed us to much more of Peru than we would have seen had we just trekked to Machu Picchu. Erick our guide was like our "peruvian google" who could answer just about any question we had about his country. As with the Condor trip I took to Patagonia last year, I always felt taken care of and could relax because all the little details were worked out by Erick and his Active Adventures Crew. Couldn't have had a better time in Peru than our Jaguar trip!

Because we were going to be in Italy we decided to bookend our trip with a day in Venice. Active Adventures picked us up at the Marco Polo Airport and within two and one half hours we were transported to San Cassiano. The juxtaposition of the urban to the pastoral was a shock to the senses.
It was not hard to make the transition though. Right away we were immersed in our new surroundings. On the very first day, jet-lagged and reeling we were hiking in the rolling hills of San Cassiano.
The first days of the trip used the hotel in San Cassiano as a base of operations. We trekked to Santa Croce through the beautiful countryside to a Refugio that used to be a Monastery. By chance, a choir was giving a concert in the chapel and we were treated to an event that may not have been scheduled, but was one of those special occasions that you have to relish when it happens.
The next day we visited the tunnels of Lagazuoi, a monument to the stupidity of war, but an adventure that should not be missed. Deep in the heart of the mountain, in dark tunnels it was not hard to imagine the suffering of the soldiers.
Afterwards we split into two groups. One group would continue hiking while the other group would participate in a via ferratta. I went on the via ferratta and topped out on Mount Averau. I beheld a 360 degree view that was breathtaking. A via ferratta is not for everyone, but I found the challenge exhilarating.
Today we are beginning our trek through the Dolomites, a grand mountain range of solid limestone. Geologically speaking they were once the floor of an ancient sea. We hiked from Refugio to Refugio. These were like small hostels complete with showers and five course meals. This is the most civilized hiking I have ever done. Everyday we would traverse the most exquisite scenery only to stop for cappuccino and cake before continuing on to our lodgings and then taking an afternoon exploration hike. A great way to spend the day. After three days and two nights it was hard to leave the back country for the Cortina’s hustle and bustle.
Cortina is the gem of this area. Once the venue for the winter Olympics it has taken on the mantle of the Aspen of Italy. From here we took a magnificent mountain bike ride to Dobbiaco. The next day we circumnavigated Cime de Lavaredo. This was a fitting culmination to our adventure.
I cannot say enough about the guides; they were excellent. They kept us busy, motivated and with a good laugh now and then. A bit of humor takes the edge off some of those days that take a toll.
It is hard to explain an Active Adventure. You would never be able to accomplish such a complicated itinerary on your own . They take care of all the logistics, and the activities are not easy but they are within the capabilities of anyone with a reasonable level of physical fitness. But there is an extra component of camaraderie that is brought to bear that creates an unforgettable moment in time.

Peru is a marvelous canvas of color, music and history; beautiful people, delicious food and breathtaking scenery. This adventure to Peru was amazing! It was a dynamic journey full of beauty and fun. From an unforgettable hike at the Lares Inca Trail to submerging into the life of the local families at Amantani Island! Everything during the trip was executed in an organized and safe manner. Thank you to our fantastic group leader, Erick, and to all my lovely travel Amigos for making this adventure a colorful one! This is how you celebrate Life!

Hi everyone! I'll pretty much repeat what I e-mailed the day after I came home. I know we can easily overdue the superlatives but this Tour de Mont Blanc was truly my very best vacation ever. We were such an enjoyable and compatible group—couples and singles, everyone was interesting and we had a lot of laughs. I totally lucked out with my lovely and lively roommate. Nick and his pal Rowi were exemplary warmhearted companions. Our Chamonix guides Jean-Marc and Celine and Jean-Marie were encouraging, informative, prepared, and very charming.

Weather held till the last day but cycling on rocky trails in the mist was scary great fun nevertheless. Hiking the Alps… words fail… hope pictures and other commentary are coming so you’ll see what I’m talking about… just spectacularly beautiful and I enjoyed every single step of every kilometer. Oh, and the kayaking and swimming on Lake Annecy couldn't have been on a more perfect warm beautiful summer day!

A great big huge thank you to you, Nick, and all of you at Active, and to our Chamonix guides, for planning the hiking, with appropriate distances and stops, excellent and varied meals and hotels, relaxing evenings, and so much more than I ever could have anticipated. Everything for a perfect and active 12 days! I hear you might be scheduling six Tours de Mont Blanc next year. You must, you’ve got a winner in this one.

    Most sincerely and happily, Leslie

The adventure begins to become just a wonderful memory. Over all the trip was amazing and the organisation with its (almost) all inclusive arrangements was impressive. There were so many high spots, it is hard to give a single highlight. The stay on Amantani island was very special, the views in the Andes were spectacular, the hotels were comfortable and the food everywhere was plentiful and delicious.
One of the best things about this trip was meeting such a lovely group of fellow travellers. We had such fun together. Erick our guide was very efficient and hard working. He must have found it challenging to shepherd such a lively group around but he managed to make it great fun as well as keeping us safe and free of worry.
All in all I am so happy that I took this trip and will recommend Active Adventures to anyone considering such an adventure.

As upper-middle-aged travelers, we approached this trip with high expectations but slight trepidation due to the intense terrain. Our guide smoothed all the rough edges, enabling us to simply enjoy ourselves throughout the trip. His good humor and competence were unflagging. He was also a fantastic cook!
The trip spanned an amazing diversity of natural settings and welcoming towns. The New Zealand system of maintained backcountry huts provided very comfortable and convenient shelters and facilities. We are already discussing when we can come back!

My husband and I both thought the trip was fabulous. We appreciated having only the 2&1/2 hr bus ride from the Venice Airport and arriving at out first hotel. The only change we would suggest is to have the day on Sunday a little shorter. For the first full day, 11 miles was a bit long. We would return the same way we went. We really liked the WW I tunnel experience on Monday. We very much enjoyed the three day hike. We liked the bike ride and we both considered the last day the icing on the cake. Both Richard and Mike were fabulous guides. They both understand managing expectations quite well. The food and lodgings were both quite good. I highly recommend this trip and like I told Phil, I'd be glad to get together a group of people to hear more about it.

This trip was perfect, just the right amount of physical exertion, combined with comfortable lodgings and incredible food. Not to mention the mind-boggling scenery, incredible energy of the mountains, and the patience of the guide phillipo, who made it possible for first ever via ferrata climb!! Oh and I loved the bike ride too! Every thing was perfect.

This was my third trip with active adventures and each trip seems to get better and better. Active Adventures makes taking a trip easy. This trip was a great way to see Mont Blanc. The views were amazing and we were fortunate to have great weather for the majority of the trip. The hikes were steep inclines and descents with some flat areas along the trails. All the accommodations were wonderful and the transit in the van was reasonable. Lots of delicious bread, cheese and cured meat were provided for lunch. The tour guides were friendly and very knowledgeable about the area. I highly recommend this trip!

This was a wonderful trip around Mt. Blanc with scenery that never quit (except that one rainy day!) The organizing was well-done, even though it is a new adventure for Active. Having the French guides added wonderful flavor and knowledge for the trip. The accommodations were all very satisfactory and we really didn't tire of cheese or chocolate! Highly recommend!

There seemed to be so many choices of trips but Active Adventures attracted me with the fact it was land based Galapagos trip and included hiking, biking and kayaking. The trip exceeded expectations and I am very glad to have chosen Active Adventures. Food was great. Active Adventures staff was great. Activities were great, and to top it off everyone in our group was great. I am even more convinced now that a land based Galapagos trip was the way to go.

Great time hiking in the mountains. Couldn't ask for a better time then to sit at the base of glaciers for lunch and relax (even have a nap) while listening to the cow bells.
