My husband and I were impressed with our guides ability to walk us through the beauty and diversity of the South Island. We felt very well taken care of and were able to see and do things I could have never planned on my own.

Patagonia is beautiful and the locations we were taken to and the timing of our hikes were extremely well planned. Our hiking group bonded to form a close knit team that are continuing to contact each other well after the trip. Our guide Cynthia was exceptional, words can't describe how she continually went beyond what was expected of her. I miss my hiking family, including Cynthia as she was our mum. I also miss the simplicity of hiking and enjoying the Patagonian beauty and wilderness as well as earning the exhaustion you feel after a satisfying days hike.

Our Rimu trip with eleven people, six in our family, was an over the top adventure every day. My husband and I were the oldest and slowest, but we were encouraged by our enthusiastic and understanding guides, Alex and Jasmine, and we enjoyed the variety of activities. We experienced breath-taking sights and sites, mountains, lakes, rivers and towns. And we were very well fed. We came home on an emotional high. Thank you Active Adventures!

The Rimu Trip is an excellent way to see the South Island. You will get a honest appreciation of this beautiful, majestic country and the warm, happy people who live there. I won't forget New Zealand, especially the turquoise, glacier-fed lakes, rugged mountains, and the star studded night sky!

Ken was an outstanding guide, very knowledgeable about the area, flora and fauna; and a great cook at the mountain hut.

Holly and Claire, our guides, were truly something else! They would make a hummingbird look fatigued. They did a lot of the cooking themselves, and it was excellent. The hikes and kayaking were varied and wonderful, so much gorgeous scenery; we hit all the best spots. I had a cold through the whole thing, and they made sure I wasn't left behind and was comfortable, and for my dietary needs Holly always had a refilled container of the BEST trail mix in the back of the bus waiting for me! All our needs were met in such a kind way, and they made it so much fun with their endless enthusiasm. We were surprised that the last day's hike was much longer and harder than anything else on the trip, but I stayed back to rest and Paul said one of them stayed back with him on the hike, as it was difficult and he was slower than the others. All around it was a great trip, including an incredible dessert (Pavlova?) made by Holly that was scarfed up by everyone. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Active Adventures tries to get it all in for you. Biking, hiking, snorkeling and kayaking. Really liked that it was a land trip. Our guide Jessica, could not have been better! She was so knowledgeable, patient and overall organized. Glad we went with A.A. for a second trip... first one was in New Zealand.

We hiked in sun, rain, wind and loved every minute. Michelle and Alex were great cheerleaders, great cooks and wonderful Kiwi representatives. We recommend this trip to anyone who wants a well-paced sampler of the best of the South Island.

Active Adventures provides detailed information on everything you need to know for your trip and will always any answer questions regarding itinerary or packing lists. The two guides for our adventure were very personable, well versed in the history, culture, geology/geography and local flavor of the sites visited. Always delivered us safely and on time to destinations and dealt with all the human overhead (bathroom breaks, snacks) and prepared delicious healthy meals.

The company chose its name well - Active Adventures - and lived up to its reputation as a well-organized, professional tour company that shows you the real New Zealand with plenty of outdoor adventure packed into a short time. I’m a lifelong athlete in above average condition for my age (58) , and the guides were very accommodating to meet the diverse fitness levels of everyone in our group. Many times I ran the trails - and did extra extensions or hikes at the suggestion of the guides. I got in a good 6 - 8 hours of activity every day - whereas other had a more moderate pace and adventure. By being with Active Adventures, you can expend as much energy as you like on the adventures themselves without having to be concerned with logistics (hotels, luggage, weather, cooking, driving the bus, etc.). The Rimu itinerary covers a lot of ground and we saw and experienced the highlights of the entire South Island in two weeks. I enjoyed both the food (about half the meals were tasty & healthy prepared by the guides themselves) & accommodation (a diverse set of charming lodgings). Christmas at the Shearers’ quarters in the Mt Cook area was a special treat - and then everyone got into the holiday spirit to make it a memorable occasion.

A wonderful mix of seeing the countryside while driving and getting out and hiking in it. The impromptu birthday party on the last night for one our group was the crowning touch. Thank you Kate and Clara.

I loved our Rimu tour last month on the South Island! Amanda and Kim were so impressive to me as they thought of everything. They worked tirelessly with smiles on their faces to see to it that our needs were met, and all the details were covered. It felt great to let someone else make decisions and take care of everything! Hats off to those 2 wonderful ladies!

This was a great trip, well planned and organized. I was injured from the Rimu loop so it was hard for me to keep up with all the activities, not Active's fault, just getting older.
