Patagonia has been a trip of dreams for me, and the experience did not disappoint. It was a wonderful view of a pristine, remote and absolute gorgeous part of our world. Nature was at its finest, and the guides for our trip were sharing their countries non-stop. I learned so much about the geography, fauna, flora, culture and appreciated the beauty of this area through their eyes and stories. It gave me a taste to come back and do the W-trek or the O-trek some day!

This trip gets better as it goes along! The itinerary was incredible - it exceeded our expectations. Even with rain, it was warm enough to enjoy the hiking thoroughly. (We brought what was suggested in the gear list and were prepared.) The accommodations allowed for us to spread out and organize at every stay. You don't have to worry about nutrition, and the food was incredibly good - so satisfying; we always looked forward to meal time! We are so blessed to have been able to finish this 14 day trek and our age; I never thought it possible, and we would do it again in a heartbeat. It was truly the trip of a lifetime!

I’ve used Active Adventures once before (Patagonia) and they did such a good job I decided to go with them again. Needless to say, they did not disappoint. Everything was well organized, with contingency plans in place in situations when the weather turned (safety first!). South Island is beautiful. It seemed like everywhere we looked there would be a gorgeous mountain or lake or waterfall. One day we’d be hiking through a rainforest, and the next walking on a glacier. The hikes are mostly of moderate difficulty. A couple hikes were a little tougher, but the guides made sure that we didn’t extend beyond our limits. The huts on the Nelson Lakes trek are basic - do not expect a shower or electricity, so bring a power bank/batteries. But it’s definitely worth it. The remainder of the trip had comfortable accommodations. Our guides Mel, Kayla, and Lynette were great. Everyone was professional, kind, and extremely hard working. Also, don’t bring snacks. They will be feeding you ALL the time. :) I would definitely recommend Active Adventures!

Our third trip with Active Adventures and we weren’t disappointed. As usual active sets a high bar for the safety and enjoyment of its guests. At every point our high expectations were met or exceeded. Alicia and Jesse pulled out all stops to ensure we got the most from our time and see much of the beauty of the South Island. Our group was very convivial and with the inspiration and encouragement of Alicia and Jesse we had one of the most enjoyable adventures ever.

Very well organized, great food. My only suggestion is to include more kayaking and biking for someone who doesnt hike at a 10min mile pace and not everyday.

I loved our guides. They were well informed about New Zealand history, MÄori legends and details about each place we visited. And they prepared many excellent meals, accommodating my vegetarian diet with aplomb!

Once upon a time there were 2 kind guides, Shannon and David, who picked up 9 weary travelers. They took us on a wonderful adventure to the north, south, east, and west of New Zealand. We hiked, marveled, laughed, learned, ached, and delighted in everything the South Island offers. The towering mountains, the deep green and blue lakes, sheep and “hamburgers†grazing, snow capped peaks. We listened in rapt attention to MÄori legend. We marveled at the wonders of Milford Sound and the majesty of Mt Cook. We were Awed by The wonderous flora…towering beeches, ferns of every type, and the magical lush moss. Oh and the birds that serenaded us everywhere- Bel, Kea, Ka-ka and zillions of other birds.

And, then there were the 2 Guides who made it all possible. Two very thoughtful and caring people who patiently answered our thousands of questions, nurtured and fed us, offered a kind word and a sturdy arm, kept us caffeinated, listened to hours of 60s music, and always made us feel like we are the only people In the world. They anticipated our every need…really? blankets at the outdoor restaurant?! Muffins and grapes at 6 am? Picnic table set by the lake? We are so grateful to you! We thank you from the bottom of our hearts. As my friend Julie said…the trip is a 10 to the 10th degree!
