What a fantastic trip!! Right from the start this was a great trip. The itinerary on the website was spot on and provided detailed accurate information on the trip. The booking process was easy.
Right from the moment we met Mel and Sarah we knew we were in for an adventure. They were so welcoming and enthusiastic.
We were pleasantly surprised to find out that most of our meals were going to be prepared by Sarah. She did not disappoint - we were served the best meals! Sarah made a point of including foods that folks indicated were their favourites.
Mel was our head guide for the first week and she was amazing! Very knowledgeable about all things New Zealand and took great pleasure in passing on her knowledge. Unfortunately Mel was only able to be with us for the first week but there was a silver lining because we then had the incomparable Jacob as our guide.
To say that Jacob is enthusiastic is an understatement of epic proportion. Also very knowledgeable about all things Kiwi.
Sarah, Mel and Jacob worked so hard to make sure we had the best experience. Job well done!!
The trip itself was well paced and definitely exposed us to some of the highlights of the South Island.
The overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound was outstanding!! The scenery was incredible, the staff on board were amazing, the food was plentiful and delicious and the cabins were comfortable and clean.
The hiking was top notch! A good mix of hilly terrain and beautiful scenery. By far the best day of hiking was at Mount Aoraki. A challenging hike up the Mueller Hut track that was well worth the climb!!
The only thing I would suggest as a change to the itinerary would be to spend two days at Mount Aoraki. There are other hikes that we could have done in the area as well as attractions such as the Sir Edmund Hilary Center and the museum that we would have liked to visit but there was no time.
All in all this trip was one of the best I have done. It was my first trip with Active Adventures and I would not hesitate in booking with them again .

Natalie and Nicola were amazing. They were patient, understanding, very accomodating, and I felt like I was their friend. My birthday was in the middle of our experience at beautiful Lake Wanaka, Natalie baked me a birthday cake and our group sang me Happy Birthday and then some us went in the lake to celebrate. That was amazing. They were well organized, I am a picky eater but the food was delicious. They both were very informative about the hikes and areas we visited. They provided native Maori stories and words of the day which was fun. The places we stayed at varied just like the areas we visited. The driving was long, long like 3 hour van rides long, but the scenery was gorgeous. I really enjoyed the kayaking and biking and wished we had more of it to break up the 7- 10 mile hikes per day. I would recommend that the hikes were in the morning instead of after a 3 hour van ride. The backpacking trip was hard, I would have liked the backpacking trip near the end of the experience instead of at the beginning. It was too much for me so soon of getting off the 13 hour flight from USA. Mom (70 yrs old) and I (52 yrs.old) really enjoyed our once in a lifetime experience and may possibly do another experience with Active Adventures in the states.

I’ve been on a number of treks with Active Adventures, including Patagonia and Everest Basecamp. As with the earlier trips, the trek to Annapurna Basecamp was outstanding. Kim (our active guide) and Amrit (local guide) were outstanding and made the trip enormously enjoyable. Can’t recommend this trip highly enough. The path to Annapurna starts off in rain forest filled with monkeys and ends up in alpine terrain, just below the snow line. Food and accommodation were all very good for the area.

The W Trek is a great hike in many many ways. Foremost, it is stunningly beautiful... majestic mountains, snow-melt streams, wildflowers (November), amazing lakes and, my biggest surprise, an amazing glacier. The trek is real work, you'd be wise to following the training advice, but is was never scary or too grueling. Active's itinerary is a winner, and the guides could not have been better.

I went straight from the Annapurna basecamp trek to Bhutan. The cultural contrast between the two countries couldn’t have been more vivid. If you have the time and funds, I highly recommend doing both back to back in that order.

Bhutan was unlike any place I’d ever been. With the exception of the hike up to the Tiger’s Nest, the hiking in Bhutan is pretty low key, especially compared to Annapurna or Everest basecamp. For the most part, hikes on this trip are flat, or even downhill. Nothing that requires much preparation, provided you are reasonably fit and can walk 4 or 5 miles without issues.

What an incredible trip! Trekking to EBC is, for many, the trek of a lifetime. And, after doing the trip, I can say it is for good reason. The trip was amazing. The scenary was epic. It changed from lush to mountainous to glacial. Each view was better than the last. And, trekking through villages and towns, seeing how people lived in the Himalayas, was also a highlight.

In terms of the trip, Active did an incredible job. It was very well organized. Every detail was considered. I felt safe, well cared for, and that I was with the best organization leading trekkers. The guides were fun, energetic, engaging, and careful about everyone's health and happiness. I cannot say enough good things about them. And, working with the back-office team at Active was a pure delight. If you are going to do EBC, Active is the company to use. Full stop.

Our trip was an amazing experience. The W hike we did was a highlight for us. Our trip leader Jessica and local guides Chris and Ian made it a wonderful experience. Each day and each hike and each refugio were so diverse, it added a new dimension each day. Our weather, according to our guides could not have been better. We had sunny, blue skies and virtually no Patagonian winds on the W hike. We had crystal clear views in Torres del Paine. We were very well fed and that helped fuel us along. In particular, we really enjoyed the public spaces (the bar) at Refugio Cuernos. Kayaking on Lago Grey was also a lot of fun and a good way to end the W hike.
Our hikes in Argentina were also spectacular. The local guides - Cecelia, Luis, and Julie were also excellent. Again, overall we had wonderful weather and amazing views of El Chaltan, which many people don't get to see. We only had small glimpses of Serro Torre. We were very well cared for by Rafa - the owner of the Patagonian Queen Hotel - his passion for his hotel, guests, and El Calafate were above and beyond. And the asado he prepared for us on our last night with all the trimmings was truly from the heart.

I greatly enjoyed the South Patagonia trip five years ago and always wondered what the northern part might look like. I found out this year and have no regrets. It is called the Lake District for good reasons as there seems to be no end of beautiful and pristine lakes of various sizes. Instead of the glaciers of the South, I was treated here to the spectacular views of the snow covered volcanos. Needless to say that the hiking was fabulous with this backdrop.

The Condor Itinerary was great! I saw and did so many things I never even thought about before and feel like I truly experienced a real sampling of the southern part of Patagonia. Now I want to see what Active Adventures could show me in the northern part of Patagonia! Overall, the trip was great journey - with many interesting people - and I’ve got some amazing memories. The excursions were unique, the activities were challenging and the food was awesome! Also, the guides (especially Alvaro, our coordinator) were fantastic. As one member of the “Family†said: “11 out of 10 starsâ€. I'd definitely recommend that anyone who wants to visit the "Fin del Mundo" take this trip :-)

I knew that a trip to New Zealand would be spectacular and memorable, but Active Adventures made it extraordinary. The itinerary was perfect - a series of incredible experiences impeccably ordered to build on each other while balancing crazy physical exertion (OMG that hike to the Crucible!) with physically easier days and varied experiences. Moreover, our guides, Grace and Ruby were incredible. Our group had people from different backgrounds, with different goals, and they made sure each of us had a great time and also that we all enjoyed and appreciated each other. Plus, the food was outstanding, which I really didn't expect :). THANK YOU SO MUCH! We're already looking to plan our next Active Adventure!

Our trip could not have been better - the selection of hikes, the organization, the meals, the dynamic quality of our 2 guides. We were also lucky to have a great group of people to share this with - the size was perfect, and the settings for meals and activities perfect. We are hikers, and found the hiking sufficiently active without being killer. We wouldn't change a thing,

Hoping to do another Active Adventures trip, maybe with the same group! (We have started a group email string). Wondering if you do Bhutan!

I was extremely happy with the way the trip was organized and both Elder and Arjun were magnificent guides. My thirst for achievement however got in the way of my better judgment about the cold conditions and the sparseness of the tea houses and amenities. The trekking with Elder and Arjun was magnificent and the vistas are unforgettable. Our group was very close knit and supportive. And it didn’t rain. But if a friend were to attempt this would want to describe the long hours laying awake in the sleeping bag just to stay warm. Overall , I had known about the sparsity of the amenities I probably would not have taken the trip despite the great support from Elder and Arjun and the experience of the Himalayas.
