We loved the diversity of this trip and exposure to so many elements of the culture, landscape, and hiking trails across the South Island, along with a taste of three (the Routeburn, Keppler, and Milford) of the Great Hikes of New Zealand. Our time in Doubtful Sound was a magical experience and nothing like we have experienced before - the remoteness, true wilderness, and spectacular scenery were breathtaking. The 5 minutes of silence on the boat was one of the most memorable times we had on the trip due to the magic of it all. Our guides, Emma and Fiona were amazing! Their level of attentiveness, fitness, and overall guiding capability was excellent. We loved their company, conversations, and joie de vivre. They were also superb chefs. Our hikes and excursions were all amazing in this beautiful country and having such incredibly amazing guides just added to our overall joy and fun on the Takahe trip.

We are working on our bucket list of active vacations and this trip was just perfect. The W was definitely the toughest hike we’ve ever done - even before adding full packs- but worth every step. Our tour leader was Zac - he had a great sense of humor and made the whole trip fun! We were lucky to make new friends and can’t wait until our next Active Adventure.

This was the third trip we (family with 2 kids, aged 11 and 13) took with Active, after Galapagos and the Himalayas. It was incredible. On one hand, we knew what to expect: great guides, great organization and great sites. This trip wasn’t different - Zac, Karina, Matias and all the others were amazing. They adapted to our needs, especially to the kids’ needs. For example, it was always important for the kids to know how many km we would hike on the day, what the terrain would be like and approx. how long it would take. This would make it easier for them because they knew what to expect. On the other hand, the landscape blew us away - literally. It was so beautiful! And windy. Sometimes an adult had to walk close behind each kid to make sure the wind wouldn’t blow him away. In terms of activities, this was the most active trip we did. We hiked about 125km in10 days. On 3 of the days we walked 22km. It was strenuous but totally worth it. The places we stayed at were well selected and offered reasonable comfort. But the one thing I learned on this trip was to book rooms with twin beds - those rooms used to be bigger and more comfortable.

This Tui trip was better than my expectations. Our guides Pim and Sally were fantastic. They did everything from preparing our dinners, loading and unloading our luggage each night and provided interesting facts about the places we saw while riding on bus. They also broke up some of the drives by taking stops at points of interest. The hike up to Franz Joseph glacier, the plane ride into Siberia valley and the ride up and over to Milford sound were just awesome. We had very good luck with the weather, which made the sights even more amazing. We were also provided choices on certain days, so you could decide how strenuous of an activity we wanted to attempt. Above all the guides were very careful about our safety and made sure we enjoyed each experience to the fullest!

The trip was as advertised! The views were spectacular and the hiking was challenging. The wind is relentless in Patagonia but that adds to the experience. Our guides did an excellent job preparing us each day and it was a relief not to have to think about the details. What an adventure!

Our two guides were excellent and made everyone feel comfortable. Some weather issues changed our plans around but we still feel like we got some excellent hiking in and a couple of very scenic cruises. The home cooked meals were a great touch in Te Anau.

Great trip from start to finish. Our group leader did a great job. For two of our meals she arranged asados with local cooks which provided some local flavor and a lot of fun. All the local guides were great. I'd recommend this trip to anyone interested in getting some exercise while having a good time.

In addition to a country full of beauty there was the added bonus of three guides who made us all feel like we were all just one happy family. I could sense this feeling throughout the trip but didn’t realize the reason until we were dining next to a different company’s tour group. You could just see the guides had not established a comfortable relationship with their tour group so their dinner conversation and banter just wasn’t as open and friendly. I realized then beyond just knowledge of the country and of navigating around on bikes how important it is to have guides who feel more like best friends than guides. Thank you Ellie, Elder and Lucy. You cats are just the best!!

If you're contemplating the 14-day Rimu trip, do it! It's the perfect way to see the South Island, including hot-spots and off-the-beaten-path places that you may likely not discover on your own as a tourist. The bus was comfortable, the lodging was great, the food was delicious, and the country of New Zealand was unlike any place I've been before. Astrid and Clare, the guides on my Rimu trip, were so fun, knowledgable, kind, and accommodating, which made the trip that much better. 10/10 would recommend!

Your crew (guides) took nine people and brought them together in a way that can only be described as Family! The adventure was outstanding. Great biking, hiking, fun, food, friendship, love, scenery and superb accommodations! Elder, Ellie and Lucy love their jobs and love showing off the country of New Zealand. They were so knowledgeable and had lovely stories to tell us about the local culture! This was our 3rd trip with Active and it was as great as the other two. It was also our 2nd time with Elder (the first was in Peru) and he is the absolute best at what he does. You are very lucky to have him working at Active. We love Active and recommend their adventures without any reservations.

This is my third trek with Active Adventures having done the Rimu and Kauri treks in New Zealand in 2019. The Condor was the real deal—what a rush. It was constant adventure with superb accommodations and wonderful food. I came back from this adventure—notwithstanding the non-stop trekking and weighed the same when I returned home—this is attributable to the wonderful meals supplied throughout the trek. I have dreamed for years about trekking in Torres del Paine National Park and this trek brought the dreams to reality. The scenery is rugged, it’s beautiful and it’s unspoiled. Jessica, our leader, was the heart and soul of the trekking experience. She was concerned about our welfare every step of the way. She is a terrific manager and knows how to change pace and to deal with unexpected problems—like the cancellation of a boat ride due to strong winds. She always had our backs and kept us on track. You could build an organization around Jessica—she is dedicated, caring and relentless in her drive to make the adventure the best she can for you. The guide on the W-trek, Chris, was jovial on the bus but he was all business on the trek. I felt safe at all times on the trek with his leadership. The W is a test but between the Chris and Christian and Jessica—we all completed the mission in good shape. Chile was special and set a high bar—but Argentina met the challenge. El Calafate proved to be a pleasant break. The feeling of riding into El Chalten with the first views of Mont Fitz-Roy was special. Again Jessica set the standard for us all and and laid out the game plan at dinner — advising what to haul in our packs the next day and our guide Juan followed up in the morning debriefing. Juan was full of information and anecdotes as we trekked to the scenic viewpoint for Mont Fitz-Roy. He made sure we stopped to get good pics of the Mont at the best locations. The accommodations were wonderful in Argentina too. The scenery was unbelievable & people were jumping for joy at my Facebook photos. I was pleasantly surprised at the availability for Wifi connections at our overnights. I thought it would be mostly dark territory. I feel that I was treated like royalty by Jessica. Everything was just perfect by design or else she intervened to make it perfect. I chilled out on the way home in Buenos Aires for 5 days & that was a further treat...although I still managed to hike 70 km around my exploration of the city!!! Thanks again Active Aventures for another wonderful trek. Thank you Jessica for everything/-you are a special person—I hope we meet again soon. Live long and prosper. Namaste. Thank you Active Adventures for all the logistics and planning—take the weekend off—then get working again to fulfill someone else’s dream on the “Condorâ€. I highly recommend this trek—but be prepared to work and take lots of pics so you can relive this one!!!! It’s special. Make sure you practice uphill and downhill hiking with a reasonable pack load. It makes life easier on the trek.

Our vacation far exceeded expectations. Zambo and Paolo are excellent guides, extremely knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Every detail was well executed, including transportation, sightseeing, and meals. Day after day , the excursions came off seamlessly, one following the next, perfectly done. The New Zealand adventure proved all what I had hoped. The scenery & activities (hiking, glacial treking, kayaking, & biking) were a perfect blend in making this a memorable experience. But without a doubt, Eli & Elder crystallized the adventure for me with focus on making our 6 person group feel well attended & well fed throughout the entire week. They are a special team & certainly stand out as two of the best guides I have experienced to date.

New Zealand has been on my bucket list for ever. I climbed mount Kili, and walked the Inca Trail, Machu Picchu, and this last month I did the Rimu Adventure with Mel and Dan. I have to start with Mel and Dan, the two most amazing guides I ever had, caring and accommodating not only 100%, easy 200%. They made my adventure more fun and possible. I had a problem with my left knee, and as soon as they knew, that was it.
Mel, the best cook and caring person ever, simply the best. Dan, I can not say enough good things about him. They made the trip more enjoyable and lovely.
The group was exactly the right number of people. They were amazing companions and wonderful group of people. Two of them were my daughters Nadine and Monica, the other four were total strangers who clicked immediately and we became a group of friends hopefully for ever.
Thank you Active Adventure for a wonderful trip. Covered a lot of ground, and all was beautiful and it is true when they say, New Zealand IS God's Country

Our Rimu trip was amazing. Our days were full, but we never felt rushed. We got a really good overview of the South Island and all it has to offer. So much to see and experience in a small area. Out guides were amazing. They were organized, very informative, and a pure joy to spend two weeks with. They became very good friends. They are even great cooks! I would recommend this trip to anyone who wants to have a physically active experience in this wonderful country.
