This was a great trip! Our guide, Gustavo, was tremendous and we really enjoyed the company of our fellow travelers. When the weather was favorable - views were truly spectacular. Unfortunately we did have several days of heavy rain and winds. Actually, the last day was snowing. Not quite what we expected in February - but that was our mistake. One hotel in El Chalten was not up to par - but otherwise they were all absolutely fine. We also had great guides leading our hikes. Would definitely consider another trip with Active Adventures.

I grew up with the Rocky Mountains in Colorado as my backyard, but learned early on that every mountain is, well, different. Not only are those that comprise the Torres del Paine and the Fitz Roy Massif different, there really is nothing like them in the Rockies, or anywhere else for that matter. Seeing them in photographs as I have for years bears no comparison to seeing and walking through the environments of the southern Andes that are unlike anywhere else on earth.

I highly recommend Camilo Sousa as a main guide for a Camino de Santiago trip--he is the most passionate, funny, knowledgable and kind guide I could've hoped for. The secondary guide Sagra also was excellent. We are so grateful for all they did for us to make a memorable, special experience.

We had both, but the guide was the difference maker, especially because after doing a face plant on a rocky trail, I needed his first aid expertise as well as his care and understanding. Happily he was able to patch me up well enough that I could walk the several miles back to the road where the driver took me to the hospital. Not what you hope for on a trip like this, but a good lesson on why traveling with a well trained professional guide makes the difference. I was able to join the rest of the group two days later and no one else’s trip was adversely affected. A win for all concerned and the source of a great story now that I am back home.

Truly enjoyable hike through highlights of the Camino with passionate stories (and some facts!) from our amazing guide Camilo. As always, Active Adventures combines continuity of trip leader with local guides in nearly every stop. These people are passionate about their place and deeply authentic in sharing their knowledge. The hiking is balanced and mostly flat with incredible vistas. We left in awe of the history of northern Spain and grateful to have experienced it with a great group!

Excellent bike trip and experience!
I was very impressed by Active Adventures. The guides, bicycles, support, bike paths, scenery, history and cultural backgrounds, accommodations and food were all first class. We were guided by Tom Litjens and Peter van Glabbeek. Both of these men were excellent guides; very friendly, personable, knowledgeable and fun. It was a pleasure to meet them. We had 8 riders in our group and it was a good size to get to know everyone.
Bikes: Cannondale, all great quality, shifted very well, no mechanical issues, with pannier with side bag storage, as well as front handlebar storage. Bikes were lined up ready to ride every morning; storage of the bikes in the evening was secured by Tom and Peter.
Daily directions (extremely concise and detailed) and briefings were provided for self guided experience, although we chose to remain as a single group for the most part. Points of interest, historical and cultural attractions were replete along the daily routes. I especially enjoyed the Stork Restoration Center.
Snacks/water were available on periodic stops along the routes daily.
Meals as provided were all excellent and provided opportunities to try many types of food. My wife is a vegetarian and there was always consideration to accommodate her needs. (I think only one meal was on our own.) We would constantly mix up seating for the opportunity to meet/speak with the guides and members of the group.
Lodging/service was excellent throughout with the various hotels and a chateau lodge.
The bike path infrastructure in the Netherlands is the best that I have experienced (I have ridden in France, Italy, Germany, Spain, Austria, Norway, and extensively in the US). The paths took us along tulip fields, wooded/forested areas, canals, towns, windmills, wind turbines, villages, dams (dikes), open fields, etc.
Support: although we had excellent weather, we did face some strong winds. Some of the riders were transferred by van for short periods to provide a rest. It was comforting to know that support was available, able in the event of severe rain/wind or mechanical issue- No one had a mechanical issue.

Sure, we could have done a lot of the activities in this vacation on our own, but having great guides makes a world of difference. For instance, we could have researched and hiked 10 miles to the secret waterfall on our own, but without our guides we would have missed the history, the stories, 90% of the animals, and the jar of special insect repellent that actually works. We could have rented a car to get ourselves from place to place, but on the last day, on our way back to the airport, could we have found a detour through farm country down dirt roads and across streams to avoid a major police protest blocking the main roads? No.

Our April 15-22, 2023 biking adventure was almost perfect: the perfect temperature to bike (no sweating), mostly sunny, perfect tulip time, great traveling group (just 4 couples and two amazing guides), history, landscape, wildlife, exquisite food, and a challenging enough ride to enjoy a celebratory beer and great night's sleep!

The Milford Track adventure checks off most of the bucket list items availalble on the South Island of New Zeland. Even though hiking is the major emphasis of the trip, the overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound and the boat tour of Milford Sound provide a really nice diversion from the hiking. Plus, the free day in Queenstown came just at the right time, so I could check off bungy jumping and jet boating from the bucket list. Overall, the food was great with lodging in very convenient locations. The biggest thing that set this trip apart from our other adventures were the guides. Dave and Mel were the best. The went over and beyond the call of duty to provide a wonderful experience. I'm a picky eater and they really put themselves out to make sure I was satified with every meal. You won't be sorry when you book your next trip with Active Adventures.

This iconic ride had a bit of everything over the six day journey. Changing weather conditions, tough hills, sometimes rugged trails, creek crossings and technical cycling areas were challenging but upon completion a definite accomplishment. This gradually created a bond between the cyclists which was encouraged by the supportive guides. Van support was always timely and hot tea/coffee and snacks greatly appreciated. Memorable ride in beautiful setting.

I’ve hiked with several adventure travel companies in far flung and beautiful places but this was the trip of a lifetime. Thanks to Active Adventures and our delightful, extremely knowledgeable, and caring guides Emma, Holly and Josh. Wow – they are all stars. This trip exceeded my expectations in every way. The South Island of New Zealand is breathtakingly beautiful. And, it was so much fun, I’d do it all over again in a heartbeat!

This trip was twice postponed due to Covid restrictions, but when we were finally able to go, it exceeded the expectations I had for it!
Hiking, biking, and kayaking were all a lot of fun, and we had a great group in our trip. Our leaders were all very good and we had fantastic weather with only one day of rain. The lodgings and meals were very good and offered lots of variety. It sure helps to be physically fit for this trip. I think that those who anticipate a physically challenging adventure will not be disappointed, especially if they do some training beforehand.
