Our guides, Pepo and Paulo, were fantastic. Both native to the Galapagos Islands, they were very knowledgeable about wildlife, culture, geography and history. Both were friendly, caring, safety conscious, and truly invested in the group learning about their islands and having a good time.

I loved the overnight cruise on doubtful sound - sunset, sunrise, natural beauty all around me, time to soak up nature, chat with friends, make new friends, reflect on life, swim and kayak. The boat was comfortable.
The opportunity to experience sections of some of the worlds famous walks and sceneries.
A highlight was climbing Ben Lomond mountain.
Our guides were friendly, knowledgable and helpful.

one word-AMAZING! Mel was amazing, and so were the guides in both Kathmandu and Bhutan. We explored two different countries and embedded ourselves (thanks to Active) into their cultures. Loved every place we went, every aspect of life we encountered-orphanage and the work done to help impoverished children, cranes and their preservation, religious beliefs, simply the people and their lifestyle. Genuine people who opened their homes and hearts to us foreigners. THANK YOU!

Hi!
We just completed our fourth trip with Active Adventures. We've done trips in Peru, NZ, Galapagos, and just now Nepal/Bhutan. Every trip we have done is just amazing. Great logistics, amazing guides -- everybody so accommodating and going above and beyond to make our trip terrific. We appreciate being able to hike to see wonderful things, and experience the culture and meet local people. Fantastic! Each and every trip we saw the wonders of each country. We are looking for trip #5!!!!!

This trip was everything advertised and more. Our two guides (Lynette our driver and guide and Natalie our chef and guide) made sure we got the most our of our 11 day tour of the North Island. Their expert knowledge on flora and fauna, trails and back roads, meals, local culture plus their encouragement and sense of humor made this trip unforgettable. We were treated to a wide variety of experiences and everyday was an adventure.

It is impossible to capture the Outh Island in only a week but this trip had so many different experiences that one could get a taste of the marvels of the South Island. Hiking, kayaking, biking, flights, optional heli-hiking, forests, coastline, mountains and of course, Milford Sound. If your time is limited, this is a great introduction to the magic that is new Zealand.

Costa Rica Guanacaste Family Vacation

Our guide Marco "Tex" Fallas made Costa Rica come alive for my family and me. From the moment Tex picked us up his energy, enthusiasm, knowledge and love for Costa Rica inspired us all. We learned so much about the culture, history, flora and fauna while enjoying great food and adventures. Each of the four of us had different favorite activities: My husband particularly loved the ocean-side lunch at Miriam's house. One of my 15 year old twins can't stop talking about snorkeling at the Whale's Tale. Our other twin thought surfing lessons with Dennis at the perfect sandy bottom Pacific beach was the hi light. And I couldn't get enough of the amazing birding everywhere we went. Tex is an ornithologist and studied under and has worked with the man who literally wrote the book on Costa Rica birding. ("The Birds of Costa Rica A Field Guide" by Richard Garrigues and Robert Dean). Our patient, alert and unflappable driver, Worner completed the team. Worner had a great eye and spotted squirrel monkeys, sloths, toucans and even frogs while driving. He would alert Tex who would say, "Perfecto!" The van would be pulled over on the side of the road, Tex would grab his scope and lead us all in a mini impromptu lesson or adventure. We cannot wait to return to Costa Rica and plan to do it again with Tex and Worner and Austin Adventures.

I’d been planning to do this trip for years and it was even better than I imagined it would be. We clearly had the A++ guide team with Luke and Elder. They were always on top of all the details and full of positivity and good cheer. Their knowledge and thoughtful consideration of our individual needs was remarkable. And their cooking was fine restaurant quality. The ground we covered (on our feet and the van) provided a great overview of the diversity of the South Island, from the tropical coast to the raw Alps to the striking beauty of Fiordland. The overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound was a real highlight. I enjoyed the range of accommodations, from the luxurious to the rustic. On many tracks, we hardly saw other people and the choice on times to walk on the more crowded tracks meant that we saw relatively few on many of those. The hikes were challenging even though I’m in pretty good condition - it felt like a real accomplishment to do some of them, but they were well worth the momentary struggles! I can’t imagine and more beautiful and flawlessly executed trip!

Though the weather was not cooperating, the trip was wonderful, and I enjoyed it very much. It was unfortunate that we could cruise to the Poor Knights Islands and snorkel there, but we managed to swim in the ocean and in warm waterfalls, do lots of hiking in the mountains, tropical forests, and along the coastlines, as well as enjoy Waitomo caves adventure.

The South Island is spectacular, and our guides and adventures with Active made it even more incredible!! The hikes and activities were fun, well-prepared, organized, and awesome/challenging/100% doable. I did not want the trip to end! Truly an incredible experience, can't wait to go back.

Reading reviews or watching U-Tube videos about trekking to EBC provides at best an introduction. Only after you’re in your boots on the trail at high altitude can you truly understand this experience. Active Adventures and our guides, Koru and Gokul did a great job helping my wife and I prepare and stay safe and enjoy every part of this once in a lifetime experience. Each day of the trek was its own adventure, with its own challenges and rewards. Thus, getting to EBC was the icing on an already awesome cake. This trek is not for the faint of heart. In my 63 years on the planet I have never done anything more physically demanding and I have been athletic all my life. But it’s worth it! There aren’t enough adjectives to describe the splendor that awaits at the “Roof of the World.â€

The Ultimate South Island Adventure Tour was an incredible introduction to New Zealand! Two weeks isn’t nearly enough time to see everything, but I feel like we saw as many of the highlights as possible during this time. The hikes and other activities were varied and beautiful, but it was the guides that really made the trip special. They were as accommodating and kind as they were knowledgeable about our surroundings. Liana’s soundtrack and commentary as we explored the island was both fun and educational, and Aleisha’s meals & snacks were always on point. The logistics of travel, luggage, coordinating meals, etc. were handled so seamlessly that I never had to think about what was next - everything was taken care of. Most importantly, safety was a focus and I never once felt worried about venturing out with this crew (Liana, Aleisha & Kaleb). I would not hesitate to do another trip with Active Adventures!
