A great way to experience these Himalayan countries, cultures, and relatively easy trails.

The 14 day Weka tour was a hassle-free way to experience much of South Island’s natural beauty with 6 of our friends.

The change in our itinerary was not good - we only got to the resort at dark and did not have any time to take advantage of its many amenities. In fact, the trip would probably be more enjoyable if the Nepal leg were shortened of even skipped. Kathmandu is a big, dirty, noisy city, and that negatively impacted my enjoyment of the trip. Better to have the time to press even further east into Bhutan - the next valley beyond where we went has some really lovely temples. And the hike to Tiger’s Nest is the pinnacle of the trip. Maybe have people fly out the next day, as everything after that paled in comparison. I loved the farm visit in Bhutan with the hot stone bath and the dancers.

I wanted an enjoyable hiking tour that visited the highlights of the South Island and that is certainly what I got. The guides were excellent, we had a great group, and we were very fortunate with the weather. There's not much I would change.

Our trip was exceptional! The guides did an amazing job of keeping us organize and informing and educating us about all of the flora, fauna and history about the areas that would surround us on our hikes as well as the different birds and the few mammals that are present. Brogan and Elize, our guides, were fun, high energy plus Brogan was a great cook! We would highly recommend the trip and this company and would definitely consider another Active Adventure trip in the future.

From the ever changing landscape, natural beauty, and scenery, this trip is lifechanging. Learning about nature and the Mauri Culture from our expert guides is something you can't get doing a trip on your own. Food was excellent, especially when made by Brogan, our guide. Guides went above and beyond to handle any requests by the guests. Challenged the group but also set the right pace/expectations for the trails / hut to hut overnights. Seamlessly had new guides come on at different points in the trip due to covid / mandatory driver breaks. Operations of trip were excellent. Overall, great trip, thank you!

Great Walks of New Zealand

What a great adventure experience in South Island New Zealand. We had the best of everything on our trip.
Our guides, Elder and Luke managed all aspects of the trip superbly. They are passionate about their role to promote a safe unforgettable outdoor experience in remote areas. I appreciated their knowledge of nature and geography and Elder’s jokes were mostly good.
It was such an opportunity to enjoy featured parts of the three walks, Routeburn, Milford and Kepler. You will enjoy them most if you have done the recommended training. The walks feature spectacular views rewarded after some effort getting up to them. Not all are as hard as Ben Lomond but it is at the end of the trip and you will have had some good practice.
The trip on the boat through Doubtful Sound was unforgettable too. So amazing to have the opportunity to journey through such an ancient landscape and even kayak and swim in it. The Monolithic mountains tower over you while the ship cruises through allowing you to take it all in. We saw dolphins and seals. The dolphins played and jumped around the front of the boat, even a mother and a baby.
The other cruise on Milford Sound was also an opportunity to view the amazing landscape.
We were so fortunate to have good weather for our trip. We packed so much in and it went so quickly that we were in a bit of shock when it all ended. We wanted to kidnap Elder and Luke and take them with us for all our future life journeys.
Everything was excellent, the guides, the accommodation, and most importantly the food that gave us fuel to power the walking.
Well done Active Adventures.

I absolutely loved the 10-day South Island Adventure that included fantastic hikes in the Nelson Lakes National Park and Punakaiki Rainforest, a lovely visit to the Forest Estate Winey where we savoured local wines and culinary delights, mountain biking, superb kayaking in the stunningly beautiful Okarito Lagoon, and in my case heli-hiking in the Franz Josef Glacier which was amazing. Our guides, Elize and Brogan, were fantastic, full of energy, and enthusiasm, ensuring every detail of our trip was taken care of. The home-cooked meals were excellent, the accommodation was first class, and the views on this journey were stunningly beautiful. I highly recommend this trip.

Booking a trip like this has been on our minds for a long time, and the Active group made it so much better than we thought it would be. We saw more of the South Island than we could have on our own, and our 2 guides were wonderful in explaining the flora and fauna, and history, of each destination and each hike. Both guides were genuine and kind, and made the hikeseven the harder ones), fun.

What a fantastic trip. Even though the weather did not cooperate and we did not get to do some of the mountain tracks, the trip was fantastic. Our guides (Brogan and Elize +) were amazing. They went above and beyond to make sure everyone was taken care of and had just what they needed. I would definitely do another trip with Active.

No doubt this is a top destination on the "bucket-list" so many of carry around in our heads, but the Active Adventures team made this a truly outstanding experience. Our very patient Trip Leader Gustavo saw to it that we were informed ("OK, Chicos!), prepared, and well-fed before heading out for each day's adventure. The Torres and El Chalten guides clearly love what they do and where they get to work, and shared that with us. Two weeks in Patagonia got away too soon!

Overall we had a wonderful experience and were able to see unique parts of the South Island we would never have had time to drive to on our own. By taking us, in the van, to different outstanding locations we were ready to then hike or bike that particular area. The van was loaded with fruit, snacks and water and during our time aboard we were able to question both our driver and guide (both of whom were outstanding!) about the local culture and geography. The accommodations were excellent and the food fabulous.

Totally loved this trip. It was a great combination of tough backpacking for the first week and more relaxed day hikes on the second week so it was a great blend. The additional activities of the kayak, walking on the glacier and the bike ride were truly awesome. Guides were great, friendly and worked with us all as there were different levels of fitness on our team. The most surprising item for me was the food....both in the hostels and the Cafe's in town. Food in this part of the world is amazing and the choices of the guides were all excellent. Weather for us was not the best, but thats also a part of the adventure. Its a great part of the world to hike and the nature is amazing. I would highly recommend Active as your trek guides.
