Patagonia is beautiful, the organization fabulous, Gustavo outstanding, and the company superb. Overall, a wonderful trip! I chose not to do the W-hike and instead I was rewarded with staying in a wonderful hotel, great meals and nice daily hikes. If you value your comfort, I would strongly recommend this option (refugions can be rough for older people). Hotels were overall great, with the exception of the one in El Chalten - it would be nice to upgrade!

We originally booked this trip for March 2020... almost three years later we finally made it! Despite our bags joining us six days later and our knees and ankles having three more years of wear and tear, it really was an exceptional trip. Josh and Lynette worked around the clock taking excellent care of us. We were constantly surprised about the quality of the food, the places we stayed and the beauty around us even as I labored up every hill, climbed over rocks, waded through a river and carried a backpack for three days for the first time! I left New Zealand feeling like I now have an unbreakable connection with the country and the people. Yes, it was harder than I ever expected BUT I did it and you can too!

The tour guides, Andy and Lisa, were wonderful. Andy is so knowledgeable about the country, the history, the geography, geology, the Maori culture, etc. Both were upbeat, positive, helpful, considerate and fun. We saw so much in 8 days. The van was very uncomfortable and we did many hours of driving, especially the 1st day. Most of us had a hard time fitting our legs into the seats. The guides worked very hard, even making our meals on most days, which were fine. The accommodations were pretty good, but the last lodging was not what was listed on the itinerary. It was at a much less expensive and looked like a much lesser quality place to stay two nights. The itinerary listed that we would stay at Te Anua Lodge, and we stayed at Tasman Holiday Parks, which was clean, but still much less expensive, so it kind of felt like a bait and switch. The Makarora Lodge was not a great place to stay, with the water that needed boiling, a radiator in the room that didn't work, the electricity that went out and the inability to use any laundry facilities. But I understand that we were in a remote area with limited options. It was hard to tell what our activities were actually going to be and seemed to deviate from what was on the written itinerary, albeit sometimes this was relating to weather conditions. We loved the flight into the Siberia Valley and that area was breathtaking. The hike out was much more challenging that was listed, but was beautiful. Loved the jet boat ride, rain and all. Milford Sound cruise was beautiful, Mirror Lakes gorgeous. Loved the Kepler Track hike through serene beech forests. Haast pass lookout was nice but the weather made it less interesting. The tour took us to places we would have had a hard time knowing to visit on our own. Overall a very positive experience.

This trip was very well organised with excellent accommodation and wonderful guides, Liana and Kayla. The lunches and evening meals prepared by them were amazing. The 5 day trip itinerary gives a good introduction to the northland of New Zealand’s North Island. Despite many of the activities being curtailed by post cyclone damage, the guides were quick to adapt the itinerary as necessary and still make sure that we had an excellent trip.

This trip was on our bucket list, and it did not disappoint. The Galapagos themselves are a marvel, but to get a real flavour and understanding of this natural treasure, one needs experienced, knowledgeable, guides; and on this trip our Active Adventure Guides, Pepo and Paolo, were outstanding. They turned a really good trip into a superb trip. Everything about our time in the islands was amazing. The organization, equipment, timing, excursions, transportation, food, lodging (in general) were top notch. Importantly our guides briefed us several times per day regarding what we were going to do, what we needed to wear and what to expect. Yes, this was an expensive trip, but you get what you pay for.
The company's name "Active Adventures" is dead on accurate. We were active from early morning until evening everyday, so one needs to be prepared for this trip. Its not a cruise - its an adventure. We saw and experienced everything that was advertised and more. The food was outstanding. Not the usual tourist fare, but authentic Ecuadorian cuisine. That in itself was an adventure not to be missed.
I think the only negative comment we would have is that the two dinners in Quito, at the EB hotel, on the first and last day of our trip were disappointing. We felt rushed. There was no opportunity to get a drink or glass of wine, the portions were very small, leaving everyone in the group still hungry after dinner. We think that those two dinner experiences could be improved significantly. Having said that, the breakfasts at the EB were superb.

After we returned, a friend asked me what was the best thing about our trip. If I had to pick just one thing - it would be our two guides. The country, the scenery, the food, the people: everything exceeded my expectations and it was our guides who pulled it all together. We didn't have to worry about anything because we were in good hands. I will definitely look into future travel options with Active Adventures.

Our guides, Lisa and Koru, were excellent and made the trip special. They enthusiastically adapted the itinerary to the weather (no use strenuously hiking for a view of the clouds!), actively engaged all members of our group, provided safe transport through wickedly winding roads, and served excellent and varied meals catering too all dietary needs. NZ has amazing scenery and culture, but Lisa and Koru made it special.

Our guides met us and off we went in our magic bus and we were not disappointed. The scenery was amazing, the food great and our other group members all enjoyed our adventures. The guides really know the country and shared the culture all along the way. We would travel with Active Adventure again.

This was a bucket list trip and it did not disappoint. We selected option B because we did not want to carry big packs or sleep in refugios. We have done that several times and did not need to repeat. The option B provided great hikes and wonderful views. Our gide were informative and fun to be with. It was a great trip.

Great trip! Doubtful Sound overnight boat cruise and Key Summit (Routeburn Track) were highlights. Guides were knowledgeable, helpful, and handled all of the logistics with ease.

This was by far the biggest trip of my life, and it was more fun than I could have imagined. The eight days were packed with varied experiences and settings, which were wonderful. The leaders--Ken and Emma--made all the difference though. Their enthusiasm and care of their group were obvious. Unforgettable!

My experience with Active Adventures was perfect. We had a small group in New Zealand with 2 of the best guides, Ken and Emma. They were fun, organized, knowledgeable, thoughtful and friendly. Emma was a fabulous cook and Ken drove superbly on the challenging roads. I liked the mixture of accommodations and the mix of restaurants or eating in family style. I believe this was the very best way to experience the spectacular country and people of New Zealand.

This trip far exceeded my expectations and those expectations were quite high. Without a doubt, the guides were the best part. They were knowledgeable, kind, very considerate, encouraging and an extraordinary team.
New Zealand, itself, was extraordinary, and unlike anything I’ve ever seen. a great selection of exceptional sites was chosen and very doable and challenging routes were selected. Often times a turn to the left to the right what do you need to save you that resulted in a great cast! What beauty.
All details were very effectively integrated , and we, the guests, or well taken care of, and were the center of our guides. Focus.
For me, personally, it may be a life-changing experience. I wanted a challenging and exciting adventure. I certainly got one! The helicopter ride to the top of Franz Josef glacier May have been the most exciting part. I never thought I would be in a location like that. You only see that in movies.
But, making it through some of the challenging routes was also exciting and reassuring. I felt certain that what was chosen by the active adventure staff with some thing I could manage, and that was true.
This was absolutely the best!!

I've wanted to visit NZ for 20 years and Active Adventures made sure it was as wonderful as possible when I finally got there. Our guides Ken and Emma were fun, knowledgeable, ready to answer any questions, and expert at choosing the best hikes for the weather and our group - and not to forget Emma being a phenomenal cook! They pushed us when needed and celebrated our accomplishments, all the while giving us a lot of insight in NZ life and nature. The trip ran like a well-oiled machine, and all I had to do was bring my hiking shoes and a thirst for an adventure. Can't thank enough for the amazing trip!

My overall experience of the 14 day Kiwi trip far exceeded my expectations. The attention and care of our guides Emma and Ken was outstanding. We were nurtured with wonderfully varied meals during the trip and educated about so many aspects of New Zealand. These included fauna, wildlife, history and ecology.
Our guides were patient, encouraging, and most striking, joyful and warm. This was truly a trip of a lifetime and I am deeply grateful.
