We loved our 2 week adventure. Our guides Dan and Brogan made the trip a huge success. They love what they do and gave attention to every little detail to make the trip both fun and challenging. Although we are independent travelers, this group trip worked extremely well. We enjoyed our travel companions and liked the pace and variety of activities.

So, as a biology major in college, the Galapagos Islands have been on my radar for 45 years...Darwin and his legacy is alive and well on the islands. I taught Earth Science and AP Biology in high school, at taught students about volcanos, ocean currents, upwelling, climate, the equator, plants, animals and such. I watched Finding Nemo a million times. So here we are, with 13 other amazing adults with interests in the environment, humanity, photography and courteous to each other to respect time and instructions, that we blended together like we'd know each other for years! Our guide Pepo, set the tone with his amazing knowledge and love of his island home, with his humor and scheduling and his overarching kindness and professionalism. I have never been on a trip where I came away with so much knowledge, love and desire to return and volunteer! This is our second adventure with Active, and for sure, we won't wait for 10 years to find our next greatest adventure. My best to you all for hiring such amazing folks to provide this amazing opportunity to live my dream!

I don't even usually write reviews, but I was so happy with every aspect of our Active Adventures trip that I have to give it an A+. I was already thinking of other places I could travel too and use this company. Their office staff was great with communication before the trip started. Once it started we had a group of 11 women (ages 50s and 60s) and were led by Leana and Lauren, two amazing guides to everything New Zealand! I loved how active and fun the whole trip was, not to mentioned we learned so much about New Zealand. Leana's driving was wonderful and we always felt safe. Lauren prepared the food and even catered to my newly vegan status. Loved it!

What a breathtaking two weeks! We took the Rimu trip (southbound), and each day topped the previous--which seemed impossible. Our guides, Ruby & Simon, were knowledgable, warm, thoughtful, supportive: it was a tremendous experience.

Our trip was scheduled to start before the Covid-9 virus really started to take hold. The Manuka far exceeded our expectations! The sites seen, the guides and the people we encountered were all amazing. The food was great and Ruby and Kaleb went the extra mile in every aspect. I particularly enjoyed Kalebs sharing of his knowledge ( which was extensive) of the geography, biology, and history of the land and places we went. The bus was comfortable, and our group size (9) was perfect. I feel very lucky to have gotten to do our trip before the crisis. I would highly recommend this trip, and these guides.

Our trip with Active Adventures to the Galapagos was one of the best trips I've ever taken! Everything was incredibly well organized and the logistics were seamless. We traveled with a great group of 13 people that have become life long friends and we had the best local guide imaginable! We are already talking about where we want to go with Active next!

Northern New Zealand has the most beautiful landscapes made up of forests, beaches, mountains, volcanos; you will never get bored on this trip. The guides were very knowledgable about the Mauri culture and the history of New Zealand, safe transportation, beautiful accomidation, delicious food, amazing views and gorgeous hikes. I would recommend this trip to anyone who loves outdoor adventures!

Wow! What a difference. I was glad that I had the opportunity to do these, especially back to back. The south was cooler and more dry and the north was warmer, "greener", and lusher. If you have the time to do both please do as you will be impressed by both .

We had a terrific time on our Manuka trip in February, not only because the South Island of New Zealand is one of the most beautiful places in the world, but because our Active Adventure guides, Pim and Astrid, took such good care of us and had such an enthusiasm for their country and the hikes and drives that we took for two weeks. They thought of everything, made us feel very comfortable, whether on one of the long drives or on a beautiful hike or over a delicious dinner that they prepared. And they were lots of fun to be with.

This trip included a group of friends, all over the age of 60, with a variety of fitness levels. The trip was enjoyable for all due to the flexibility in activity levels and number of guides so all could participate every day.

We went on hikes in the national parks and on the great walks, we traveled in a small group, we ate local, we went to a winery, had an overnight cruise on Doubtful Sound and had two of the best guides ever (Pim and Astrid). We didn’t want to “see†New Zealand from a cruise ship or the window of a tour bus; this trip exceeded our expectations.

This was our fourth Active Adventures trip, the second to South America, and it was followed immediately by our fifth (we did the Condor and Puma back to back). We originally signed up for the base Condor trip, including the ‘W’ trek, with another couple (ages 64 to 70). However, we did so with trepidation-hiking was one thing but hauling 60 liter packs for 4-5 days was a concern. Some 6 months prior to departure we were contacted by AA about a new option, the ‘W’ Experience replacing the Trek with 4 nights in a refugio in Serrano (immediately adjacent to Torres del Paine National Park) and day hikes in the park. We signed up for that immediately and within days an additional 2 couples joined us. My understanding is we were only the second or third group to do the Experience. Regarding the ‘W’ Experience vs. the ‘W’ Trek- the Experience remains a very active and challenging undertaking but one more conducive to accommodating hikers of various levels of fitness. We thoroughly enjoyed the hikes and we thoroughly enjoyed returning to our refugio nightly for drinks, outstanding food and camaraderie. I do not feel our appreciation of the wonders of Torres del Paine was lessened in any way with this alternative. It was the right choice for us and it remains a very “active†undertaking. It did help that we had unusually good weather! After Torres del Paine we rejoined with our intrepid ‘W’ Trek trip mates (6 did the Trek) to continue on to Argentina to visit Glacier National Park, El Chalten, etc. Good weather followed us and we had stunning views of the peaks around El Chalten and had a wonderful day viewing Perito Moreno glacier which was far more interesting than I thought it would be. Multiple clear days led to incredible views of Fitz Roy and surrounding peaks with a variety of hikes (and one bike ride) out of El Chalten. We had a spectrum of hiking capabilities in the group and our trip leader ensured we had sufficient local guide support so those who wished to be challenged were, and those who needed something less aggressive were accommodated.
We found southern Patagonia to be awe inspiring. Words and pictures cannot adequately describe the magnificence of the peaks and glaciers, the wildlife (plenty of condors!), the desolation of the steppes and the general wonder of the place. Active Adventures did a terrific job with the logistics (lodging, transport, food, etc.) but I think the core of their success lies with the excellence of their tour leaders (Zacarias on this trip) and the quality of the local guides they employ. We knew Zac from a trip to Peru in 2016. He is an elite tour leader and a wonderful person and he outdid himself on our trip, his last of the season. Highly recommend the Condor and if concerned about committing to the ‘W’ Trek, consider the Experience as an alternative. At the end of the trip, four of us headed from Calafate to Bariloche to start the Puma in northern Patagonia for yet more adventures.

Stunning scenery, challenging hikes, great accommodations. This was my first guided trip and I was very impressed with the knowledge, professionalism and positivity of all of the guides. Zac was very good at keeping our group of 14 happy, healthy, and on track for 14 days. Great sense of humor, extensive knowledge of the area and all round lovely guy!
