This trip was superb! It was an excellent balance of hiking and sightseeing activities. Our guides, Ash and Alicia, were amazing. Our travel group was extremely caring, personable and interesting; felt like family (in a good way). The choice of places to visit was excellent--beautiful scenery; lots of variety.

We went on the Condor trip this February, it was an absolutely exceptional experience. We got great weather which helped, but the guides, the location and the walks were fantastic. Recommended without reservation.

The Weka trip is for avid bikers who want to experience New Zealand from the seat of a bike. The trails we rode were varied, mostly in great shape and the scenery was spectacular. We rode along side the ocean, the Tasman Sea, roaring rivers, huge lakes, through jungles and fields, and up and down hills, all with breathtaking views around every corner. The guides were incredibly knowledgeable about New Zealand and the terrain we rode and found the best parts of each trail for us. In addition to all the riding we did some amazing hiking and walking and were kept active all the time. The lodging and food was wonderful and everything was very well organized. Just a fabulous experience all around!

The Kauri trip was a great combination of lots of different activities that showcased so many different environments and the culture of the North Island. We hiked in mountains, volcanoes, high above the sea, on the beach and in the jungle. We biked, sand boarded, walked through caves, learned about the Maori culture, visited historical sites and saw some of the oldest tress in the world. Each adventure was very different, many challenging and all fascinating.

Our Condor trip with Active Adventures far surpassed our expectations. Of course the destination was awe-inspiring, but we had no idea how much our guides would come to mean to us, how much we would enjoy our traveling companions, and how delicious the food would be! Every single detail was planned perfectly and went off without a hitch. Our guide Jessica was unbelievable- she was kind and funny, very organized, and taught us so much about South America. She treated us like family! We definitely plan to take another trip with Active in the future.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Every activity was well planned and executed. We always felt we were in confident hands with our guides. All our guides were good listeners and attended to all of us in a polite and timely manner. We loved all the food served. All our gals worked their buns off smiling all the way. They exuded happiness every step of the way. We are so glad we took this trip.

An unexpected great group of people who were all in search of the wonders of South Island also found joy, laughter and friendship.

Our guides were knowledgeable and share their love of New Zealand and Maori culture. Supportive and flexible all accommodations were met.

I want Dan to be my dad. A guide like no other—he will support you, tell you stories and make you feel just at home.

I can’t say enough about this trip. Our guides Dan and Sally were rock stars. They went above and beyond the call of duty! This is a great way to see the South Island. The people in my group were well traveled and all agreed that this was the way to see New Zealand. Active Adventures thought of everything. Make sure you’re in good shape before you go. The scenery is amazing. It’s really hard to pick my favorite day. The food was great! Sally and Dan cooked most of our meals and did a great job! I ate way more on this trip than at home. I met some awesome people on this trip. I consider all of them friends! BOOK THIS TRIP YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT!

In February my husband and I did the Kauri trip which was truly an adventure! We lucked out with great weather allowing us to do all the planned activities plus two. Not only did we sand board, snorkel, kayak, mountain bike, and go cave tubing, all connected with some amazing hikes, we rafted the highest commercially rafted falls in the world, and jumped off the sky tower in Auckland!! In between the adventures were great food and new friends, sightseeing and culture, all pieced together by fantastic guides. Jo & Koru were top notch New Zealand hosts, taking care of every need or want even before we new we wanted it!

I feel lucky to have chosen Active Adventures for my trekking on the South Island. The trip was everything it was advertised to be. I can't say enough about the professionalism of our guides, Sally and Dan. They were faced with shepherding a diverse group of people of various ages, personalities, and levels of physical fitness through some challenging activities and they did so with competence and unfailing good natures. When the weather presented problems and forced some adjustments they responded with flexibility and creativity and saw to it that there was no wasted down time. I think my favorite day was the one when we kayaked in a white heron nature preserve in the morning, hiked to a mountain vista at mid-day, and then took a helicopter to the Franz Joseph glacier in the afternoon and marveled at the incredible color of the light in an ice cave, after which we enjoyed a very satisfying Kiwi dinner and I, for one, savored a local beer (or three) with a deep sense of satisfaction. What a day. A close second for a favorite was day two of the three day hike of the Angelus Circuit. Yes, the going was rough at times and the pack seemed to get heavier as we went along and my feet hurt-prompting the observation that it was the hardest work I've ever paid to do- but the reward of getting to the Hut and wading into the clear mountain lake to take in the views was worth it. After some intensely physical days, passive viewing was just what was called for. When the weather made a visit to Milford Sound impossible, Dan and Sally adjusted and lead to a boat trip through Doubtful Sound. Some locals had told me that they favored Doubtful over Milford, and I can see why. It was one of the most beautiful places I've ever been. After that peaceful interlude, the carnival of activities available at Queenstown was right on the mark to kick the adrenaline level back up again. Several in our group chose bungy jumping. I went canyoning. It was my first time and now I want to go back and go over even bigger waterfalls. I now know how a goldfish feels when its journey ends by being flushed away. It's a thrill- if you're not a fish.
Finally, spending two nights at the Braemar Sheep Station was special. The lakeside views of the mountain range surrounding majestic Aoraki/Mount Cook and treat of watching the dogs expertly work the sheep across the rolling fields underscored that I was not in Indiana anymore. There were several other activities and locations that would justify a longer review but I'll just repeat that there was no wasted time, which is saying a lot for a two week trip. Again, I credit Dan and Sally for that. No doubt they had a lot of help from the others at Active Adventures, all of whom I found to be unfailingly friendly and helpful. They all contributed to forming my impression of Kiwis as some of the best folks there are to be found. I'll post pictures.

Well Active Adventures - you sure know how to pick your guides!!! I spent most of the tour with our fabulous Liana and Lauren who were AMAZING! Not to say Clare and Fiona aren't amazing also, just didn't spend much time with them, but what I did, they were terrific too! Liana and Lauren were so focused, informative, fun and FUNNY, caring and ORGANIZED! We had 11 ladies (moms) that were whipped into shape with their guidance to make this A TRIP OF A LIFETIME and I CANNOT wait to go back with my family! They had a plan B,C,D,E or F if needed regarding weather situations, accomodations or WHATEVER could possibly put a wrench into our day... I couldn't have asked for a better tour BUT these 2 terrific gals made it a tour to be remembered! They are invited to my home whenever it is a possibility for them to visit, that's how much they meant to me! Kudos to your company for such a wonderful TEAM!
    Sincerely,

The Rimu trip was a great way to explore the South Island of NZ. There were wonderful hikes through rainforests and along rivers as well as climbs up mountains. The guides on my trip made sure you had the foods you liked, adventures you were looking for and a good time. Because of a road closure into Milford Sound, the company made sure that we experienced a similar area and booked the tour into Doubtful Sound. Thanks everyone, especially the guides and driver.
