After arriving at San Cristobal, our group of eleven was soon on its way from the highlands down to the beach, by bike and in the rain. Exhilarating, promising start for our stay! After admiring the sea lions lounging on the beach, we headed for the water and the first of three snorkeling events. We visited four islands, learning about the ecology of each from Pablo, our guide. Everyday was filled with different adventures, including a volcano hike, giant turtles in both the breeding center and in the wild, lava tubes, kayaking, and always the history and biology for each island. Pablo is passionate about the Galapagos and shows us why he loves this place. We dined on fresh fish and fresh fruits of Ecuador. There were always several choices on the menu and dietary restrictions were carefully followed. Our group ranged in age from 23 to 75, an active and gregarious group. I've dreamt for 15 years about this trip and it was even better than I anticipated!

Excellent land based tour of 4 Galapagos Islands with our local guide Zambo. Our group brought great Karma and we saw some remarkable mammals, birds and reptiles along with the some spectacular scenery. The highlight was snorkelling with the Hammerhead Sharks at Kicker Rock. Enjoyed the beach front accommodations and local foods - loved the ceviche. Would highly recommend this tour!

It's my pleasure to praise the picturesque Patagonia Puma adventure. The itinerary is very well balanced with physical activity and relaxation, and the scenery is stunning throughout. Our accommodations and food were wonderful also, again well balanced with everything from the charming island motel to lovely high-end hotels, and with meals ranging from generous packed lunches to gourmet dining. Our guide, Mayra, was wonderful; she was able to connect with diverse personalities and fitness levels within our group, and ensured that everyone had a great travel experience! All of our local guides were excellent also. The trip highlights were many: Cerro Falkner hike, sea kayaking in Reloncavi Fiord, rafting the Petrohue River, Hotel La Casa de Eugenia San Martin.

Having completed numerous active adventures since our retirement 12 years ago, (many of which were 5 out of 5 in difficulty level) we thought it might be time to leave the mountains. Not so fast. Perhaps we could continue our mountain explorations if we scaled back a little on the difficulty level and improved the accommodations available. The Puma trip to Northern Patagonia (activity level 3 out of 5) was just the answer. This trip included numerous mountain hikes, lake and fiord kayaking, white water rafting, and fabulous scenery. After a busy day we always went back to lovely accomodations, excellent culinary delights with refreshing beverages, and a comfy bed to sleep in. The trekking is not a walk in the park, and still requires a good level of fitness. We enjoy getting ready for the trip with many visits to the gym and other active pastimes. Mayra, our tour guide, could not have been more friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. We were very sad to say goodbye!

Our second trip to South America with Active Adventures surpassed the high expectations we had after our amazing trip to Peru. Not a single detail was left unattended.
Gustavo was an exceptional leader. We quickly gained confidence in him throughout the W-Trek and beyond. It was great comfort to know that he always had our back. We truly appreciated the individual attention whenever required and often in advance of any need. He encouraged and modelled a true family like environment that let us feel comfortable with each other which contributed significantly to the overall experience.
We must also compliment and recognize the very excellent contribution of the local guides at all locations. They like Gustavo were consummate professionals who quickly gained our confidence and provided all essential support, input and advice on how to get the most from our trip.
While often unsung, we were particularly happy with the drivers who moved us from place to place. They drove in a safe and comfortable manner that let us truly relax and enjoy the scenery. (This is important)
As always we appreciate that locally provided equipment was of a first class quality.
We could go on all day but the best thing we think we can do is quote Arnold Schwarzenegger " we'll be back".ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜

It was a very very enjoyable experience not just because i had my younger daughter with me but because it was so well organized by Active Adventures. The Patagonian lakes ( and fiords, waterfalls, volcanos, towns etc) surpassed my expectations. And our main tour guide, Mayra, was just terrific & catered patiently to everyone's needs, especially mine as i "inched" my way up a couple of climbs. And her assistants, especially Richard, were very likeable and fun. I have already recommended your web site to several neighbors younger and more fit than i. On our way back to Bariloche from Chile, I recall seeing another tour guide with a bullhorn & thanked my lucky stars for being part of Mayra's group. Thank you all for this trip. Jock Wright

Having travelled with Active before we had high expectations but you exceeded them. We went to see the unique wildlife and weren’t disappointed. Our lead guide Pepo was informative, amusing and very attentive to our safety and comfort. I can’t imagine a better guide but his support staff was great in making our trip seamless and smooth. Accommodations and food was excellent and transfers easy, even the boat rides between islands. It is hard to pick a highlight because each day was a highlight. I would definitely recommend this trip. The days were busy but not overly strenuous.

I originally booked my trip with Active Adventures because I was traveling on my own and wanted to be part of a group of like-minded travelers. I have used several other companies in the past (with my husband, my mother, and by myself) and this was by far my favorite.
Our group was on the smaller side, which made for lots of room on the bus and easier logistics than larger groups that I have been a part of. Our guides, Claire and Holly were absolutely amazing! Seriously, I can't say enough good things about them. Holly made us the most delicious meals. After a few days, she even remembered what kind of tea I preferred and always had it ready. She was also always cheery and a delight to be around. Claire was a wealth of information about the places we visited. She also rescued me on several occasions when I was not as organized as I could be. She got my Ipad back when I accidentally left it at one of the hotels, she lent me her hiking poles when I forgot my own on the bus, and even lent me her jandels when I didn't have mine available. They worked together seamlessly, clearly love what they do, and fostered a relaxed and fun atmosphere that helped us all to bond and enjoy the trip. And also, they played great music on the bus (including the Opo the Dolphin song, which will now be with me forever).
I thought the planned hikes and other activities were top-notch. On almost all of the hikes, it was just one beautiful view after another. It was also interesting to learn about the plants and animals around us. I appreciated that most of the hikes were spaced with other activities in between. I especially enjoyed the mountain biking, the boat day, and sand surfing.
Overall, I am a happy camper and will use Active Adventures when I come back to New Zealand and possibly for other destinations as well.

This trip far exceeded my expectations. So well organized, it all ran like clockwork. The meals were sensational, especially the ones prepared by our guides Katie and Emily. Katie’s driving skills are exceptional!
We had varied accommodations but all were amazing.
I especially love the personal feeling by having such a small group. We all seemed to bond on the first day.
Memories to last a lifetime.

This was truly a trip of a lifetime!!! I highly recommend the Takahe adventure and if you are lucky, you will have Pim and Astrid as your guides. The Takeha walks were great - even though we lost out on one day of hiking due to severe rains - the path was washed out. Loved the variety that the Takeha offered : overnight cruise in Doubtful Sound, bird sanctuary, a variety of hikes and of course the day trek on the Milford track. Pim and Astrid were fabulous hosts and guides. Very welcoming, knowledgeable, kept us well fed, happy and on time!!! I was traveling solo on this trip - Pim and Astrid were welcoming right from the start and the group of 7 strangers quickly became friends, all due to their attitude and generous nature. This was a blast!!! Thank you so much!
