As always, Active Adventures delivered a wonderful, well-organized trip. This is my 4th trip with them, and they never fail to disappoint. The itinerary is well planned, Çem, the Trip Leader is a knowledgeable, resourceful, flexible person, with a great personality, and a food lover. Our local guides were very good, AA chooses the best. Despite several days of rain, I thoroughly enjoyed the trip.

Fi and Em were the perfect guides for our holiday tour of the South Island. From the time they met us at the airport til they dropped us again 2 weeks later, they took exquisite care of every detail. Celebrating Christmas in Punakaki and Franz Josef, with Em’s amazing meals made it feel like holidays with family. The hiking, the detail about New Zealand, and getting to know the culture through our guides made this a trip apart. Thank you!

the South Island Of New Zealand exceed my expectations by a fair margin. The scenery, people, the landscapes were some of the most breathtaking i have ever laid eyes on. to be able to walk some of these places such as Aoraki, Kepler and Roteburn tracks and the Milford sound was such an experience it is hard to describe.
Our 2 Active Guides Alisha and Koru (Brent) were by far the best guides i have every had and went above an beyond every day. If Active has better guides/people than these 2 then they must be amazing. Their leadership and knowledge allowed out whole group of 7 to fully experience this Rimu trip to the full.

The Galapagos archipelago is magical, and Active Adventures made it the honeymoon of a lifetime for my wife and I. It’s not hard to see why the islands so inspired Darwin—a natural wonder. And Pablo is, truly, the world’s leading conservationist & guide. Bravo!

This is one of the most challenging trips I've been to. But yet, I really enjoyed it! The trip itself is well-organized, and the guide, Jessica, is very lively and patient.

Active Adventures was personally recommended to me by one of their previous guests, and I am so glad I took her advice to book my own trip! The places they took us were so picturesque, the itinerary so seamless and smooth, every day was filled with plenty of adventures (yet not over-full, so you stayed well rested), the guides were beyond incredible, and the food was delicious, filling, healthy, and had lots of variety. The food part was especially important to me as someone with a restricted diet; I have never eaten this well on a trip! I am already recommending Active to people who ask about my trip. No wonder they have such a great reputation! Book your own trip; you won't regret it!

First of all, this trip would not have been possible without the staff and guides at Active Adventures. Our questions were answered promptly, efficiently, and with much good cheer via email and the phone. We did a lot of research and it was very apparent that the Rimu trip was the perfect choice for us. Once we arrived in New Zealand, we could not have been in better hands thanks to our wonderful tour guides, Samantha and Roisin. (You should really keep them together for all trips, because they made a great pair!) They hiked with us, fed us, entertained us, educated us, and generally kept us all happy and functioning even though we had some rainy, cold weather. Food was generally quite good through a combination of Sam’s home-cooked meals and restaurant fare. I especially enjoyed Sam’s grain salad lunches (e.g., cous cous) in a box. I also really appreciated that we didn’t “waste†much time on meals, because that left us with a lot more time to enjoy the South Island. (For instance we ate a few lunches in the van while driving.) For one meal, I would have liked to have had a healthier dinner option. We ate delicious Fish and Chips at the Pancake Rocks Café; I noticed Roisin had opted for a lighter fish dinner. I wish I had known about that potential choice. Accommodations were good to great; my favorites were Braemar Station and Milford Sound Lodge. Manapouri Lakeview Motor Inn was just fair in my opinion. Lakehead Hut and Bushline Hut were basic but clean and comfortable. The biggest negative was having to use the outhouse in the middle of the night! The backpacking portion of the Rimu trip was quite challenging, but I loved it. Definitely one of the highlights of the trip. Thank goodness I had hiking poles. I really enjoyed Kaikoura Peninsula Walkway, Pancake Holes, Okarito Wetland Walk, Routeburn Track, Kepler Track, and ****** Valley Track. My favorite hike was the Alex Knob Track. Outstanding! Aside from hiking, we visited some small towns, cycled, and kayaked. The Hawea River Trail was quite enjoyable and the mountain bikes were great. Sadly, I didn’t appreciate the kayaking as much. The locations (Okarito Lagoon and Milford Sound) were gorgeous but we didn’t do much paddling. I believe I would have enjoyed kayaking more if we had been more active. However, I would like to thank Baz at Okarito Kayaks for giving us an enlightening geology lesson about the area. In hindsight, it’s very apparent that the Rimu trip has been continually refined over the years. Our time was allocated very efficiently. Our guides knew where all the rest stops were. We kept to a schedule but didn’t feel rushed. We did a lot more things than other tours had in their itineraries. Every Kiwi we met was so friendly. And did I mention how much we loved our guides? All in all, it was an outstanding trip and one that I would heartily recommend! Thank you for hosting us!

Because of all the rain and flooding that happened on our trip, our guides and active adventures had to make many last minute changes to our itinerary. They did an incredible job adjusting things to keep our group happy and safe. I have been on several other group hiking trips in the past, but this one ended up being the best, unique and exciting trip of all! Thank you to active adventures, our guides and my group.

The entire experience from initial prep to the finished trip was great. Our main guide, Alvaro, did a tremendous job with organization, motivation, education, managing our group. On the the hikes, some of which were up to 14 miles, Alvaro was able to manage the various hiking speeds of our group with great skill. The local guides including Andrea in Chile and Christian in Argentina were friendly and educational and also were magnificent. The scenery was awesome and the variable weather- high winds, drizzle, rain, sunny, or cloudy, calm, sometimes all in an hour time frame- certainly added to our trip. I definitely will return for another adventure with Active Adventures.
