Our Rimu was the second Active Adventures trip for me and the first go around for my wife. Like my Peru trip, the Rimu was outstanding in all respects. Wonderful people and country. Draw-dropping beauty all around, everywhere. Thank goodness the guides were driving because I wouldn't be able to keep my eyes on the road with the constant and beautiful scenery all around New Zealand. Our guides were terrific. Personable and engaging, knowledgeable and smart. Always with interesting narrative and commentary but not boring and scripted. The Rimu itinerary is wonderful. You almost do the entire circumference of the south island and get to explore all the treasures while not feeling touristy (much of it local and off the beaten path). The activity level was not killer, it tested at times but was generally moderate and didn't push the pace.
The Active Adventures staff was really great. The website registration and doc process is simple to use and very informative. Questions to office staff were always answered quickly and helpfully.
No hesitations about wholeheartedly recommending Rimu and Active Adventures!!!

I was so pleased with our guides Roisin and Sam. Two of the most capable young women that kept everyone happy, hiking, fed, informed and driven all over the South Island. The rain, sleet and cold weather never stopped us from doing anything. I was also so pleased with the option of kayaking Marlborough sounds while my husband could hike Nelson Lakes National park. It was so nice to have everything all set up for us and I loved our accommodations especially Milford Lodge and Braemar station.

Trip was fantastic. Our two guides were unbelievable. The meals prepared by them were stellar. Leadership and ability to handle a diverse set of people harmoniously was really terrific. The North Island was beautiful and the Kiwi people were wonderfully friendly.

The level of service on this trip was incredible. Even though the accommodation was fairly basic (everything we needed, clean and tidy), the guides, the food and the whole experience was 5*! We did one of the most incredible hikes, wading through icey rivers, trekking through meadows, and up into snow capped mountains, while avalanches went off either side of us. It was challenging, but such a great adventure! The scenic flight out to Siberia Valley was very special and only added to our experience, along with the jet boat out of the valley on day 3! The guides were the bit that made this trip so special as they really ensured we had more than we could of expected and catered to everyone's needs with care and attention to detail. This was one of the best trips I've done to date and would highly recommend Active Adventures!

This our third trip with Active Adventures. We are always impressed with the level of our guides. On this trip to New Zealand we had Brogan and Clare. The women in our group did some kayaking in Queen Charlotte Sound. Had a very comfortable accomodation at Tanglewood with a hotter and tree ferns. All of our accommodations were great. The food was great. Had fresh venison, salmon, whitebait, mussels, oysters, wine, great coffee. Outstanding fruit and avocados. I really pushed myself physically but it was worth it. I enjoyed all the roadside attractions and the toilets along the way.

It’s an outdoors active trip. You want to be relatively fit if you want to get the most out of it. Wet boots, rain, wind, cold, sun, rainbows, blue skies. Have and open mind because that’s New Zealand. Constant changing weather but always beautiful. Unbelievable landscapes. If you’re looks for comfort then this isn’t your trip. If you want to experience the real New Zealand and get a feel for the country and you’re active then this is what you want. They break the trip up with a mid trip two night stay at crowne plaza in Queenstown, which was nice. Our guides Simon and Lucy were incredible. Learned so much about the history and culture, and they made sure we were well prepared for everyday. Food was great for being in the middle of nowhere and making meals on portable burners. But once again, you need to open minded, not picky, and realistic. Overall a great experience. This isn’t your tourist bus, stop at the sites trip. This is an adventure. So much better! Enjoy!

A great trip around the south island. This is a shorter trip for those who are short on time but definitely hit's the highlights of New Zealand. This trip has it all - helicopter & plane rides, sea kayaking, cycling, jet boats and lot's of hiking. Guides were knowledgeable and super friendly. Highly recommended.

What a wonderful trip of hiking, biking and kayaking throughout the South Island with two very excellent guides. There was a lot to see and learn about New Zealand's South Island during this two week trip. Very enjoyable and was sad when this trip came to an end. Two thumbs up!

We travelled with Active Adventures on the Rimu New Zealand trip. When considering a company to book with we looked at Active Adventures. The Iguana trip seemed to go to all the places we wanted to see in Peru and Ecuador, we were right it was the right company.

A genuinely "Kiwi"experience from the unparalleled guides and food to the lodgings and the paradisiacal vistas at every turn. Exceptional value not to mention the experiences you couldn't put a price on. Let's just say I'm ready to book my next Active Adventure!

We experienced some of the most incredible scenic views of the coastal plains, snow capped mountains, waterfalls and crystal clear/blue lakes. Our two guides were very knowledgeable and well informed of the South Islands history. They kept us prepared and organized for each days adventure. Food & snacks were delicious and plentiful. Accommodations were very nice and comfortable. Our group was awesome and we enjoyed good fellowship with everyone!
