Nepal and the Himalayas … how to describe this trip? Kathmandu- chaotic, but zen. Third world with a twist. Lukla- quite the airport, both arrival and departure. Khumbu trek- a road of stones and stairs, animals, and people, dust, exotic smells, noise at all levels, but calm. As you trek and enter nature it all becomes part of you. Truly an experience of being one with the earth and all of her sentient beings. I found myself chanting and crying as I viewed Everest and the sister mountains. I trembled at my first of 12 suspension bridge s and overcame my fear by bridge # 10. The Nepalese are wonderful and welcoming; children's laughter and song always present somewhere. For me, this trip exceeded my expectations and has won its place to the top of my favorite trips list. Thank you to the wonderful guides- knowledgable and caring. Thank you to active adventures- always a pleasure to see what you have created.

First time in Nepal, my partner has been there 4 times. I was overwhelmed when arrived in Kathmandu, starting at the airport, traffic, noise! After a night sleep we ventured out and it was so beautiful to see this chaotic city, where everyone knows which one is going left, right or crossing without any accidents. I loved the beautiful colors worn by the women. It was great walking around Durbar Square and see temples and pagodas. We visited also Pashupatinath, we were happy to witness the cremations and Bhaktapur, the old city full of wooden curvings, temples and no traffic. On our flight to Luckla it was great to see the countryside with terraces and the steep valleys. In Luckla it was like we stepped in a different world. Our trek was perfect for my physical strength and I enjoyed walking and seeing the Himalayas, especially when I was able to see them all above Namche Bazar on our way to Khumjung. Elder and Gokool were always friendly and knowledgeable about the surroundings, mountains and customs. On this trip I though about my mother a lot (she passed away in March), she was from the mountains in Italy and it brought back memories of my childhood living in the mountain where there was no roads and cars. I loved the food and enjoyed the drinking tea wherever we stopped. I am hoping to go back one day not too far in the future.

I had the fortune to discover Active Adventures back in 2007 and went on a Rimu trip that spring. It was so amazing that I had to come back, this time being able to share the adventure with my wife (who had been hearing about this trip since we met). The Tui trip did not disappoint, and packed the wonders of the South Island into a short enough span that we had time see some of the North Island with the second half of a Kauri. The spring is truly the best time to visit New Zealand and we had such a great time that it's difficult to pick which was our favorite day or activity!

I really did not know what to expect when this trip was booked other than having the chance to see Nepal and trek the Himalayas. There was no way to anticipate what it was really like when we there from the moment we arrived in Kathmandu and experienced the traffic on the way from the airport to the hotel, to the heartstopping landing at Lukla airport, to seeing the mountains for the first time, to the actual trekking through the mountains, valleys and villages. There is something powerfully overwhelming and awe inspiring being among the steep peaks and deep river valleys in an area of the world where life has gone on and people have learned so survive for what seems forever. The trek and the adjustment to the Nepalese diet was, at times, demanding, but every day was worthwhile. There was something deeply moving and transformational about this trek compared to other outdoor adventures. Perhaps it is the holy mountains or the deeply spiritual nature that is everywhere on display walking among stupas, prayer flags and stones carved or painted with Sanskrit that makes Nepal and the trek so extraordinary. Even after almost two weeks back, I can still feel the energy of this trip in every moment.

I had no idea the wildlife was so amazing. It was like being in a David Attenbourough documentary. Our guide Pablo was constantly pointing out different birds. Arriving on the islands and seeing all the sea lions and iguanas, walking down a path to see a giant turtle and coming around a bend to see pink flamingos was breathtaking. South America is also a surprising place and a country I will return to.

Wish I could put this adventure back on my bucket list. What a beautiful country. Being a novice hiker, at the end of the day the tiredness was taken over by the exhilaration of the hikes. Thanks to our guides, Holly and Pepper for the encouragement and support. I highly recommend the Kiwi Tour.

The Active Adventures trip to the Galapagos Islands was incredible. Our guide, Pablo was fantastic and shared with us all the treasures of the Galapagos Islands. The islands are pristine with wildlife in abundance. I enjoyed the snorkelling with sea lions, sea turtles, eagle rays, reef sharks, beautiful fish, penguins and dolphins. Our bike ride and kayaking were lots of fun. Probably my highlight was the hike to the volcano on Isabela Island. We hiked through the mist and came through to brilliant sunshine and a gigantic crater and lava fields. The accommodation was fabulous as was the food. The fish at the restaurants on the Galapagos was delicious. Overall a wonderful trip.

After exploring the North Island for 3 weeks by myself I have to say I was skeptical that anything I do moving forward could compare with my experiences. Was I ever proven wrong after my 14 day RIMU guided tour of South Island with Active Adventure. It was obvious from the start that every minute was planned in advance so the day to day flow was essentially flawless. My group, which I loved and ended up feeling like family, got to see and explore the most beautiful and exotic places, away from most other travelers. There’s no way one could possibly duplicate the same experience on their own. The accommodations (to my surprise) were almost plush, with gourmet healthy hand prepared food for all three meals. Our means of travel between adventures was “FREDâ€, our luxurious mini bus. What really was the reason this all went so well was because of our 2 guides- Clare and Brogan. Both are natives and it was obvious they were passionate about their love for NZ and sharing their knowledge with their guests. Each brought something special and unique to offer. Brogan was the chef and Clare drove Fred, but both were very knowledgeable about NZs history, it’s culture, topography, plant and animal species, even detailed discussions about plate tectonics! Also they are in amazing shape to take on any physical challenges that came our way and believe me there were many. Bottom line, they were the perfect spokespeople for helping us outsiders to understand the essence of what it is to be a Kiwi. When I come back with friends for another tour I’m going to request that Brogan and Clare be our guides

I had very high expectations going into this trip, both of Active Adventures (this is our third trip with AA) and also of the Galapagos Islands. I can honestly say that my expectations of both were exceeded! The tour was excellent due primarily to our expert guide and history/nature scholar, Pablo, whose unflagging enthusiasm for the Galapagos was contagious. He not only did all of the usual tour coordination of housing/transportation/food with great skill, he also brought his own deep love, knowledge, and respect for these islands to every place we went. He told us even after 21 years living in the islands, he still found new things to surpise him. It was an absolute joy to travel with him. His positive spirit, easy smile, and depth of knowledge about all the flora and fauna and marine life meant we couldn't help but learn and develop a profound appreciation for the natural wonder that is the Galapagos Islands.

Iceland was my second adventure with Active Adventures and once again, it was an absolutely AMAZING experience! Tom and Jo, our Active guides, did a wonderful job of welcoming us to this ruggedly beautiful country and keeping us going as we crossed the southern coast and faced changing weather conditions, challenging hikes and an occasional unexpected change in plans. Tom was extremely knowledgeable about the geology and the history of the country and his knowledge of the "back roads" had us unexpectedly chasing reindeer one afternoon as he took the van off roading so that we could have a view of another of Iceland's spectacular glaciers. Jo was mindful of our every need and her easy-going and cheerful personality was positively infectious.

Jo and Andy guided us through great adventures - hiking and mountain biking - as well as amazing cultural experiences to show us the best of New Zealand's North Island. The Tongariro Crossing was the highlight of the trip and Jo did a great job guiding us across. If you're thinking about joining a Kauri trip - go!

I was very hesitant at taking a hiking tour at my age. But Active Adventures assured me that it was possible. Boy did they make this
trip the best ever. Hosts/Guides, Holly and Pepper, were absolutely the best any one could ask for. Their enthusiasm and knowledge
about every thing was unbelievable. They made every second of the trip exciting, even when we were soaking wet, in a rain storm. The way they worked together was like one person with 6 hands. The sites we saw were fantastic with the routes well planned and maximize for total comfort and enjoyment. And the lodgings were close to heaven. Active Adventures deserves a lot of credit for the planning but Holly and Pepper executed it with perfection. If I can, I would do it again. Can not wait to show off my pictures and brag
about what I did, saw and learned. An unbelievable experience!

As experienced travelers we were not sure of the need to go on an organized tour and we instantly learned why when we met Emily and Ellie and our tour bus, Frank! They safely and expertly guided us to incredible, often remote, locations allowing us to do nothing but enjoy each active adventure to the max! With locals taking care of all the details and hassles it freed us up to hike, kayak, bike and feast to our heart’s content. Their knowledge of the country, local flora and fauna, Maori legends and history, etc etc made it all the more rich. Both women exemplified true Kiwi spirit- joyful, caring, hard working and conscientious.
