Winter Rimu was an outstanding adventure for me and my wife, in our late 60’s. We are willing to be flexible around poor weather, and are strong hikers. We hiked and toured in some of the most beautiful places of the South Island. The program was packed with carefully planned, artfully presented outdoor adventures. Long and short hikes; rain, snow and blue skies; fern-filled forests, waterfalls and cool bird life. The guiding, transport and a few necessary modifications were all handled gracefully. We feel as if we made new friends everywhere we stopped, and often felt “we’ll have to come back here someday, to spend a few daysâ€.

Our trip to the Galapagos by far exceeded my expectations, where else in our world today do you literally need to sidestep the wildlife? Our guide Sambo was a delight, his knowledge of the flora and fauna and love for his Islands was outstanding and very interesting.

Just a sensational trip! A great group and enthusiastic tour guide, and many amazing local guides as well. Hotel accommodations and the refugios were all excellent. A good workout everyday during the Torres del Paine National Park hike, so be in shape! Loved El Chalten and once you've hiked up to see Fitz Roy live and in person, no need to see another mountain again, ever. ;) The rest don't compare! Great time and a great group of travelers as well! Mark

Active Adventures is a fun-tastic tour company! Their itineraries are well thought of and planned, the guides Emma, Amanda and Pim were super friendly, knowledgeable, accommodating and went out of their way to see to the comfort of the group. Our mode of transportation was well suited to the overland trips we did in New Zealand's South Island, and the meals that were put together by our very multi-talented guides were tasty, fullsome and hit the spot bang on! Loved the camaraderie and interaction between my co-travellers and our guides.

We have always preferred guided vacations as guides will give you the inside scoop on the region. This trip again confirmed our belief as Andy and Andreas were so well-informed and willing to share their love for this area. How special it was to learn about the Ladin people, language, and culture from Andreas, who not only spoke Ladin and Italian, but also German and English (and I probably missed others). Both guides were patient and kind, and Andy had a tremendous sense of humor along with the other skills (organization, communication, knowledge, patience, endurance) needed to be a top-notch guide. The Dolomites are truly magnificent--every view was a feast for the eyes and heart. The hiking was taken at a friendly pace which allowed for talks on the history of the region and much photography. The via ferrata experience was so much fun that I could have just started at the bottom and done it all over again. Our specialized guides Marco and Filippo were excellent teachers and kept us safe at all times. I never once felt at risk. I cannot say enough good things about the accommodations and the food. Every place we stayed was sparkling clean and comfortable and we continue to be amazed at the beautiful finishes in the hotels and rifugios of Italy. Our meals were 5-star--whether partaken in the hotel, at a restaurant, or at a rifugio. The guides were great at helping us make our meal selections as they knew the specialties of the both the region and the restaurants. I am definitely going to be preparing some of these dishes at home! Our pre-trip information and checklist were extremely helpful--we brought along everything we needed. We found all accommodations to be hand-wash friendly as each one provided heated drying racks. We could have actually brought fewer clothes if packing space had been at a premium. We are veterans of other adventure travel tours, and in fact, this trip was a "substitute" for a trip that had to be cancelled due to an accident the week of our intended departure. As I told the whole group, this trip was the absolute happiest consequence from an awful incident. I know in my heart that an unknown force brought us to this outstanding company and our wonderful hiking companions. Thank you, Active Adventures, from the bottom of my heart. Health withstanding, we will definitely be looking at another trip with your company!

Each day was different and exciting - also a challenge. I enjoyed waking up each day and knowing that I would need to get my legs in gear and head out for an experience that I couldn't even imagine. I didn't even know I was tired until the trip was over! Each hike was different and amazing. Some were hikes that I would have said I just couldn't do and then I just did them! Thank you to our guides Natalie and Tom!

This is our second trip with Austin. Another wonderful experience. (Austria & now Utah Might 5) The Utah Mighty 5 trip from beginning to end was wonderful. Our guides Stephen & Alisa were kind, caring, responsible, accommodating, confident & knowledgeable. They were prepared & made every challenging hike, fun & exhilarating! These hike were challenging and beautiful...You must not have a fear of heights. What a Mighty 5 Boot camp, work out. We also hiked trails that were not listed but far more challenging and less crowded,& truly amazing! Our lunches were delicious. Our dinners were 4 star cuisine ...I'm not into souvenirs but the shop had such unusual items...I even bought something for myself..

My wife and I had a marvelous time on our hiking circuit around Mont Blanc with Active Adventures. As a fairly but not overly fit couple in our 60s, our first worry was that we'd be overwhelmed by the physical challenges of hiking 8 miles or so on an almost daily basis. Let us not sugarcoat this: the hikes WERE a challenge. But the great pleasure and satisfaction of this trip was that we could and did meet those challenges. The other members of our seven-member group were on exactly the same level of fitness that we were, and our two guides, Jo and Bernadette, were just terrific: fun, encouraging, and extremely knowledgeable about all the mountains we hiked up. At the end of each hike - 4 or so pm - we were exhausted but psyched for a hot shower and cold beer in our next country inn. And by the next morning we were ready take the mountains on again. An important point to add here is that our trip was well scheduled, with a few critical breaks. In surveying other travel groups that hike around Mont Blanc, we had noticed that some called for really rigorous hikes every day..for ten or twelve days. Frankly, that would have been too much for us - and more stressful than satisfying. On Active Adventures, we started with a half day hike, followed by a day of kayaking...By the third day we were ready for our first full-day hike, and the others that followed. After that we were ready for another interlude, of mountain biking. We don't want to send in this review without emphasizing how great our guides were. Jo and Bernadette did more than get us from one trail and country inn to the next. They really knitted us together as a team. They were the best!

My wife and I recently completed this trip. The scenery was truly amazing. We have hiked previously with AA in New Zealand on the Rimu trip which was likewise wonderful, but I found this to be an even better experience. Our guides Bernadette from France and Jo from Wales/New Zealand were unfailingly cheerful and fun to be around.Clem our driver and lunch preparer was very sweet and quite the driver on some very narrow winding roads. The food was very good and the hotels were very clean and comfortable while all being different in their own way. The hiking days were long but the pace was very comfortable. I've hiked all over the US including multiple trips to Alaska and Hawaii,Canada, Patagonia,Mexico, and much of Central and South America. Tour du Mont Blanc to me is at or close to the top in scenery perhaps with the exception of Wrangell St Elias National Park in Alaska. However, there are no amenities to be had there which made this trip so enjoyable. Our group was likewise a really nice and interesting group. There were a lot of interesting conversations. I recommend this trip and in particular Bernadette,Jo,and Clem.

This was my first solo trip and I could not have picked a better place or team to support me through it. I went to spots that took my breath away and had a wonderful time learning about the culture. The guides Andy and Jo made sure I felt comfortable and had every need taken care off. I regret taking the 5 day trip instead of the full trip so this mean I will be definitely coming back round.
