There is no better way to experience New Zealand. Active Adventures allows you to relax, hike, bike, kayak and sightsee with the best of guides and great company from all over the world. It wasn’t just about meeting people or seeing someplace new; our guides made us feel at home, they renewed my sense of respect and awe for the great outdoors and this trip is something I will always cherish. The company and guides are prepared for every weather or unforeseen change (so you don’t have to be) and I could not have been more impressed with their professionalism. We had great accommodations, amazing food (thank you Ruby), and the best vacation ever!

Fully aware of the "Active" in our tour company's name, we expected nothing less than amazing activity exploring New Zealand with new friends.
The country was the most beautiful I have ever visited and our new group friends are now long time friends. I have recommended Active Adventures and New Zealand to so many friends.

For anyone interested in seeing and doing various activities in one trip, the Jaguar trip is the ultimate adventure. From hiking the Lares or Classic Inca Trail (which I did) to biking to motoring up the river to the Amazon jungle, this adventure gets it all. Once again, Active Adventures has put together and unforgettable trip. This was my second adventure with Active and I know there will be more in my future. They always manage to put a great package together and have outstanding trip leaders who make everyone in your group feel welcome and comfortable.

Hi, we have just got back from our trip to Quito and the Galapagos. I wanted to drop you a line to thank you for organising such an amazing holiday. I also wanted to mention that our guide Pepo was brilliant and made the whole trip one to remember for ever. He obviously cares so much about his islands that it is infectious. We had a great group and have come home with some great memories, although our luggage is still to arrive! :) not a problem, it means a break before all the washing. Please can you send me a hard copy of your new brochure as I would like to book another holiday!

EBC Trekking will be remembered and cherished for a lifetime!
Active Adventures did a wonderful job from the planning stage of the trip to the very last day of the trip. The trip was well planned and organized to the very last detail.
Himalayas was much more than what I imagined to be. The magnificence of the mountain, the ruggedness, the beauty, and the hard working people and the animals were all very impressive. Although the accommodations were very basic and the thin air made the hiking very challenging, the amazing, beautiful mountain and the people I traveled with made it all worthwhile. The team that I traveled with were very supportive, caring, and pleasant to be with. The Active people were there for us at every step of the way. They were efficient, prompt, caring and professional. I am thankful and grateful for all my team members. Without their support I would have never reached the summit! Thank you, everyone! I will always remember you all!

We wanted to experience a variety of cultures and environments in Peru and this trip gave us more than we expected. From the rainforest to Lake Titicaca and oh yes, Machu Picchu too. Even the first day on our own in Lima was special as we explored pre-Inca cultures. And throughout the trip we had really professional support from Jessica and all the local guides.

We did the Tortuga package and it was incredible, the first couple of days on San Christobal were spent getting to see the wildlife above the water and then we went snorkeling at Kicker Rock. Oh. My. God. Snorkeling with a school of Hammerhead sharks just below the surface going about their business, frolicking sea lions, shoals of tropical fish, Galapagos sharks mooching about. It was amazing.
We moved to Isla Floreana and saw the giant tortoises, plus a wee snorkel off the beach with some huge sea turtles.
Onwards to Isla Isabela, and a hike up and around Sierra Nebraska volcano, a bit more snorkeling with the turtles and sharks, free surfing lessons for those were interested as one of the guides was a national champion. More giant tortoises, and flamingos in the coastal lagoons.
On to Isla Santa Cruz and a kayak around the Harbour followed by a snorkel with the juvenile sharks and more large turtles, getting close to huge turtles who were grazing on the sea bed and just pottering about doing their thing was really exhilarating. A visit to the islands giant tortoises centre and a trip to see Lonesome George and Super Diego, followed by a visit to the Charles Darwin Research Centre.
Last pit stop was Isla Baltra to bid farewell to our guide, the incredible and indomitable Pepo "super plan", and fly back to Ecuador.

Coming off the 8 day Tui South Island experience, I expected more or less of the same. And to some degree that didn't disappoint. But what I didn't see coming was the strong Maori presence. The way Liana and the Alpine Crossing guide spoke about the features of the landscape in the context of the Maori mythology & history, as one, blew my mind. I was really struck by how these 2 local guides had internalized this and spoke from the heart & mind about it, seamlessly. Quite beautiful and the wonderful hikes and Mt. biking notwithstanding, that is what I will remember about the North Island. It came up a bit with Ruby & Kaleb, but nothing like this. Then we went to Rotorua which formally added to our awareness and while my interest was already peaking and it was enlightening, it didn't carry the emotional impact that listening to the guides did. Never seen anything like it. Very cool.

I'm so glad I chose Active Adventures for my tour of New Zealand, and that I went with the 'Tui' tour. All of the selected hiking/biking trails were beautiful, allowed for breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, and provided opportunities for hikers of all levels to challenge themselves (or take it easy, if needed). The food was always very filling and delicious, not to mention prepared with care and consideration. I was very pleased with all of our lodging, each accommodation offering a unique experience and highlighting the natural wonders of its location. Ruby and Kaleb (our guides) were there to support us through the entire trip, answering every question anyone asked about their home country, and supplying interesting facts along the way. They made a point to get to know everyone on the tour, and did everything within their power to make sure each of us was inspired by our adventure on every day of our trip. And I WAS inspired - every day! If you are considering this tour - just do it. You won't have any regrets.

To speak about the scenery, the remarkable beauty, and the incredible and overwhelming feelings of smallness in a giant world is easy when talking about our trip to EBC. To exhaust my vocabulary using hyperbole would be entirely appropriate when describing the physical experience of being in a place that very few people in this world ever get to see. While it was definitely a time that no one could ever forget for the "whats", the "wheres", and the "hows", what made this trip was the "who." Guides can simply bring you from one point to another with relative ease and efficiency. They can make sure that you are equipped and given adequate direction, but with Koru, Amrit, and Ram, there was a sense of togetherness, of oneness, and a shared experience that was felt throughout. I can have all of the pictures, all of the video; I can share stories, reminisce with the friends I went with, and attempt to describe all that I saw and felt with those who weren't there. What I can't do is describe the feeling of this shared experience, the oneness with those who had a love for the Himalayas, and the indisputable drive to personally shape the experience for each person. We all felt the power of where we were. I don't know how it was done, but Koru, Amrit, and Ram established an environment that all felt trust in each other, faith in our guides, and made it possible for all of us to truly have that experience of a lifetime. I no longer have a bucket list, I have an insatiable desire to do all of it.

The "Rimu" hiking adventure trip was certainly the trip of a lifetime. Every part of the trip was well planned, even the alternate plan that was made because of the landslide across the highway going to St. Josef Glacier was a great alternative. Fantastic lodging with incredible views from every place we stayed. Great food! (We certainly didn't go hungry!!) Awesome guides who love their country and love to show it to visitors. I wish all travel companies I've dealt with were as accommodating as Active Adventures of New Zealand. All in all I couldn't ask for a more enjoyable trip then with Active Adventures.

This was my 1st trip to New Zealand and the South Island and 9th time trekking around the world. The country, as everyone who has ever visited it will tell you is beautiful and full of delightful people. But what was so gratifying was the knowledge, preparedness, spirit, and leadership of Ruby and Kaleb. They did a phenomenal job conveying their homegrown knowledge of the flora, fauna, wild life, geology and people. They put safety first and always had a good Plan B and C when conditions called for it. That made this trip very worthwhile and rewarding and beyond my expectations. And I would encourage anyone considering a trip like this work with Active Adventures to maximize their experience.

Wow...where to begin? I decided on the Kiwi trip as my friend and I, while hikers, are in our 70's and DO NOT do high peaks anymore (or back-packing)...A third friend joined who does even less hiking. Despite our limitations, our guides, Leanna and Holly, accommodated our every need. We felt as if we were traveling with our own children as they were so solicitous of us. I have never met two women who were more capable of leading a tour. From cooking skills to driving to knowledge of this land they are so protective of, they earned our respect and gratitude. Truly the gift of a lifetime and not to be missed!!

Everyone asks a returning sojourner, what was your favorite part about your trip? How can one have a favorite part of any trip, much less of the south island of New Zealand. But when pressed, I say my favorite part of my Kiwi adventure was seeing the trees, shrubs, and birds, all of which were new to me. Nothing like them in my part of the northern hemisphere. I had the special treat of having guide Lauren with me as sweep, teaching me the Maori names of each and every one. I didn't always pass the test the next day, but I did pretty darn well. The great expanse of the central part of the island is so lovely. The landscape is interrupted only by tiny towns; otherwise sheep and cattle tending it. And lastly, how can an island the size of perhaps 2/3 of the state of Colorado have such diversity of ecosystems, beaches with crashing waves, rain forest, glaciers amidst snow covered mountains, grasslands and so on? I don't know, but it is all there for you to marvel at.
